I'd like to start off by saying that this is only my first week in the Customization realm, and that not only do I appreciate you guys contributing to this vast archive of knowledge, but I really feel for you guys when some ****ie like myself posts a thread asking for something that he could have just searched for. It's in that spirit that I write this.
As I try to get familiar with the myriad customization oppurtunities and their corresponding solutions, I'm also trying to compile a "****ie Starter Guide" if you will, a catch-all information stop for all us ****ies so we don't have to bother the rest of you so much.
But as I'm still inexperienced myself, I have no help to offer other ****ies. As it is, I'm just searching the forums for the stuff I need and bookmarking it so I can gather a near complete, and clearly structured guide to everyone trying to break into the customization game.
What I'm struck by most is that for any given single element of Windows that can be customized, there are a great number of applications that will customize that one element. That is, there is a lot of redundancy in the world of customizing Windows. And with 100 solutions per every one problem, it leaves me wondering which solution I should choose for myself. I could ask the forum, but not only would I get chastised for not doing my own searching, even the people dedicated to helping me could only tell me what works best for them. And that's understandable.
What I'm interested in finding are reviews and comparisons, and the more concise and thorough, the better. Of course, this whole forum is almost like a network of reviews open to any and all that wish to search it. And certainly I have done so, and found some excellent stuff. What I'm wondering though is if anyone knows where I can get ahold of some more formal reviews. Like instead of someone posting a question about program X and then everyone chimes in with their two cents on program X, is there any posts that are basically: "Review of Flyakite," "Comparison of all Finder Bars," Review of ObjectDock," etc.?
I'm not asking for these reviews so much as I'm asking for the help of anyone that knows right off hand where to point my attention so that I can be the one to post a thread with the subject, "Review: ObjectBar" and the like.
It's like the ****ies act like these helpless guys in Intensive Care Units, and they need an even more special and dedicated support network to nurse them to Customozition health. Well, I'm all for that network, but I think ****ies should do all the work to create it, given the resources are pretty much all right here.
I'm not asking anybody to dig for me, but if any of you have some bookmarks that sound like what I'm looking for, I'd appreciate the link. Or even if somebody met this dude, I think his name was Randy, and he wears baseball hats, sometimes, and he knew a lot about.. stuff... then you can tell me to look out for theis one dude Randy in a ball cap...
