what???????????????????????????????????????????????? where's the link? over my dead body reeves is dead! i'm not going to accept anybody else to act for him
why can't these hollywood guys make something original? it annoys me. batman begins. house of wax. all those japanesse movie remakes. and not to mention tons of sequels for big blockbuster movies.
i understand that these guys love money, but they need to be a LOT more creative.
and what's next. star wars returns for 4 5 6? matrix comes back? FREAK!

- they had a script for episodes 1-6 since the 70's. Who knows, we might get "The Shadows of The Empire" sequel trilogy

Interest in Superman has increased since Smallville first started. Smallville has become amazing and they've done an excellent job in rewriting the whole Superman Mythos.
'Superman Returns' is being directed by X-Men and X-Men 2 director Bryan Singer. With those two super-hero films under his belt I think he could do a pretty decent job. I know some people haven't been happy with the X-Men movie franchise, but I personally am quite impressed with what he's done with it. Kevin Spacey has been cast as Lex Luthor, which I personally think is a very good choice. And of course, the other guy we're missing out here is Brandon Routh who's been cast as Superman. Now I've not seen any of his work before, and that's partly because he's not done much at all. But in my oppinion that's a good thing. I prefer that they've cast a new face than re-using some high profile actor such as Tom Cruise or someone like that. So based on that reason alone, I think he might do a good job. Although he does have some big boots to fill to follow Reeves.
And talking about boots, we have the costume itself. Take a look below:
Fortunately, Bryan Singer didn't want to change the costume much at all - he added the 'S' to the belt buckle which I personally think is a nice touch and he's kept the "v-cut" in the boots. When he did X-Men, the costumes were re-invented to have a more armoured look to them, and to change from the blue-yellow look to the black leather look.
"With X-Men, although they had extraordinary powers, they also had physical weaknesses, the suits were for protection as well as costume. Superman is the Man of Steel. Bullets bounce off him, not his suit."
Costume designer Louise Ming3nbach ['e' had to be replaced by '3' cos of language filters - bah!] preserved the blue, red and yellow motif, but the most obvious difference is that the shades are slightly darker than the bright primary colors of the comics. Superman's yellow belt is more golden, and his cape is a deep scarlet. The darker colour scheme seemed odd at first but it didn't take long to grow on me, and I think that cinematically it will probably look really good too.
The main idea of the costume in reference to how it's supposed to reflect his personality, is to say (in the words of director Bryan Singer); "He's not afraid". I think they've captured that quite well.
However, the major snag that I have with the costume though is that the 'S' plate is smaller and higher on the chest. I do like that it's more of a 3D plate than previous costumes, but it looks far too small in my opinion.
One other good thing to mention about the costume in regards to Routh though is that unlike the Spider-Man costume, there's nothing painted on to accentuate muscles - they're all Brandon Routh's which add least adds to the realism of accepting him as the Man of Steel. But like Spider-Man's costume, the Superman one has a similar kind of detail close-up which is a bit hard to make out on the photo above. But also, I think he actually does have some good similarities to Christopher Reeves as Clark Kent;
The premise for the film sounds like it could be quite good too. I've read some interviews which give spoilers about the storyline and it sounds good - but to avoid spoiling it for others I'm not going to comment on it any further. If you want to know more about the storyline, then you're going to have to consciously force yourself to click on this link for an Interview with James Marsden (who's also known well as X-Men's Cyclops). And for those of you wondering who's been cast as Lois Lane, she's being played by Kate Bosworth.
So why not cast Smallville's Tom Welling as Superman? Well, the film follows from the other movies rather than from Smallville, so there are some inconsistancies between the two - and having Tom Welling as Superman with those inconsistancies just wouldn't work. He was also too busy with other projects apparently but fortunately for Smallville fans - we WILL see him as Superman eventually. When Clark leaves Smallville at the end of the shows run (which is rumoured to be 5 seasons, meaning the next is the last), there is a TV-Movie planned, called 'Metropolis'.
My personal feelings are that aside from a couple of snags with the costume, I think that Superman Returns will be a good movie. But of course, only time will tell. 
Oooooooh - and also, in regards to the costume and how obvious it can be that Clark Kent is Superman (considering that his disguise is just a pair of glasses and his hair brushed different), I just have two things to say on the matter...
1) Considering as Clark he's so "dorky" and clumsy and basically his mannerisms and way he stands (which Christopher Reeves did perfectly) in contrast with him as Superman, plus the fact that he's seen as being an unlikely superhero are what kinda makes it difficult to think it's him (lets see if Brandon Routh can pull off a similar thing as Reeves was able to).

Yep, I'm psyched about this. In fact, I made some walls for Supes when it was announced as Superman Unbelievable.
I think the guy looks a lot like Christopher Reeve (no 's'!!!). It's supposed to take place after Superman 3 and before Superman 4, so the guy needed to look a lot like Chris.
I was angry when Bryan Singer signed on to Supes and abandoned X-Men franchise (X-Men 3 also has a 2006 release date, filming is starting later this month). Just recently Fox hired the guy who did the Rush Hours series after the guy who they hired to replace Singer backed out. But the script is not done by him, so hopefully it will pan out, after all, the third installment of X-Men will be the Dark Phoenix saga, they better not screw it up. AND a Transformers Live Action movie based on the first-gen Transformer is scheduled for a 2006 release!
If this movie does good, then they will do a sequel. And if that is successful, they will probably start a Batman versus Superman movie.

Freddy versus Jason (an OK movie, the fighting sequences were awesome)? I guess, but it depends which way they take it. They fought many times in comics, but for many different reasons. And the story would be better because its not like they are tossing to things together for the hell of it.

Calm down. Heck the fact that Matt Murdock (Dare Devil) wasn't a blonde made me raise an eyebrow, for continuity. But Superman's build has always been shifting, from a more realistic human form, to a muscular giant. The point is that this Clark Kent/Superman needed to look the same for the movie's continuity.
Somebody forgot to take his Lexapro. Oh, wait that was me...
IMHO, Superman isn't Christopher Reeve. A comic series from the 1930es and still alive can't be tied to one mortal. Tarzan (1890es) isn't Johnny Weissmuller either. RIP, Mr Reeve, very good job done, next.

Well, there you have Fantastic Four coming out this year. After that, they are going to start production on Silver Surfer. Then, there is that whole Galactus (A.K.A. Big G, A.K.A. Eater of the Worlds) sends Silver Surfer to Earth as his herald and Fantastic Four have to stop them. And since the same studio is doing both movies, Silver Surfer versus Fantastic Four Baby!!!P.S: I'm more a fan of Marvel Comics than DC, but I'd like to see how this turns out.
I'd root for Silver Surfer since I liked him when I was younger, but Mr. Fantastic has "Error Operator" by Taking Back Sunday as "his song" in the movie so I guess I'm rooting for him too.

Well as I said earlier, I think it's good that Tom Welling (Clark from Smallville) hasn't been cast.
Tom Welling is the perfect choice, I think he's done fantastically as Clark in Smallville and has the right body-build etc (you can easily picture him as Superman) BUT... the reason why I think it's good that he hasn't been cast is because this film doesn't follow from Smallville. When Superman Returns was officially anounced and there was the whole thing about whether Tom Welling would do it or not - the director said that there would be inconsistancies between the movie and the tv series.
If you were to see Tom Welling there and it didn't fit in with Smallville - I think it would annoy the hell out of a lot of people and cause more problems than it solves. I like to see Superman Returns as a continuation of the Reeve films and I look forward to the TV-Movie 'Metropolis' that's planned for after Smallville ends its run. And at least with Metropolis we will still get to see Welling as Superman.
But what's really interesting, is that Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (creators of Smallville) recently visited the set of Superman Returns. No-one seems to know why they were there, but apparently Al Gough confirmed that the rumour was indeed true to a Superman fan-site (although did not give any further details as to what happened when they were there).

On a related note, Wizard magazine featured a preview of what's to come from Season 5 of Smallville;
The hit series kicks into a new gear as both Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) rocket closer to their respective destinies. "Clark has spent four years running from who he is; this season he finally embraces it and begins to move forward," Series Co-creator and Executive Producer Alfred Gough says. "Meanwhile, Lex will spiral closer and closer to the dark side." The season will also see fan favorite Erica Durance return for 13 more episodes as Lois Lane, more stories set in Metropolis and a new villain who Gough claims "gives even Lionel Luthor pause."

the superman in the picture looks like an muscle guy gone fat... make a better choice for the role. Smallville boy would be a better choice... at least he's in decent shape to do it.
If anything pick somebody else to do the role that's in decent shape.
