AveDesk 1.2 Desklet Question

After reviewing the AveDesk 1.2 package listing by AndreasV and additionally the FAQ for the release can anyone help me to answer the following questions, please?

1. How do you go about listing the contents of a drive/folder on the desktop (is there a specific desklet needed).

2. What desklet should I download to make my icons bigger. Btw, when doing this, does all the icons in your system change, or just those on the desktop.

Thanks a lot for the help and your time!!

1. Listing as in popping out a menu with all files listed? One big, fat no and there's no such desklet.

2. What does icon size have to do with AveDesk?

3. Next time post in proper sub-forum or your post will be deleted without notice (in this case it`s the AveDesk sub-forum and this is a [help] thread)

Unbeliever...sorry about posting in wrong place.

Here is what I am talking about...

How do you make the icons bigger and how do you list the size of the icon on the side?

Thanks!

#291784

rightclick an icon, select desklet properties, and in the appearance tab you should be able to select width, hight, etc... For labeling options, you should look at the "label" tab!

Thanks Phat-Liz0rd I will try it out and let you know.

Most welcome!

Phat-Liz0rd, I had to use AveDesk 1.1 b/c the v1.2 icon does not show up near the time in the taskbar (I restarted the app as mentioned in a previous post and it still didn't show up), but here's my reply...

In v1.1 how do I display the "My Computer" and "My Network Places" information? I tried PidlShortcut, but I think its for v1.2 and it doesn't work. I rather have a single icon that contains all the information My Computer and My Network Places displays.

Thanks again for your time!

try again, delete all avedesk folders, get avedesk 1.2, im not sure why it doesnt show up in the tray, maybe its got to do with some reg entry...

the thing i cant understand is what information do u want for my computer and network places, i believe there is none - sorry if i do not understand ur questions tho its not very clear

#291867

Honestly, get avedesk 1.2.

If things dont work, try running "unregister.bat" and then "register.bat" before you run avedesk. That should make avedesk appear near the systray (near the time). If it still doesnt work, there might be something wrong with the preferences you're using: go to your harddisk/documents and settings/[username]/application data

and delete the "avedesk" folder. The "application data"-folder could be hidden, which means you'll have to go to your control panel, look for "folder options", go to the "view" tab, and select "show hidden files and folders". After you've deleted the preferences folder, start avedesk, and everything should show normally. If that STILL doesnt do the trick, let us know, we'll see how we can help you.

What kind of information would you like for "my computer" and "my network places"? If you could clear that up, we might be able to help you :)

Here's an update...

I finally got everything running great, after a long night of adjusting settings and whatnot. Btw, the information I was referring to under "My Computer" was the number of files contained in the icon or something to that extent, but after reading past posts, I read this it is not possible to show this information. The program works great now!!! Thanks for all the help everyone!

One last question...when I download something to the desktop, it places the new folder underneath the "My Computer" icon instead of below the last icon I have on my desktop. Is there a fix for this? I looked at the Desklet Properties, but could not find any setting.

I've had the same problem. I already requested something for the next version of avedesk (1.3.), which is the ability to sort the files, just as windows does. At the moment you'll just need to hang on: you can always download your files to a "download"-folder, and add that folder as desklet. That's what I did at least :)

About "my computer": my computer isnt actually a "folder" in the strict sense, that's why the information available to it is somewhat limited.

I never thought of this idea, but to be honest, that is a great way to handle this issue. And as a matter of a fact, I am going to do this exact thing. Great way to fix this minor issue. Thank you again! :D

Btw, your reasoning regarding the "My Computer" question makes perfect sense.

Well, you know where to post if you have more issues :D Avedesk is such a great program, would be a shame if you cant find solutions immediately and simply stop using the program...

Phat-Liz0rd...

I set up a folder for my downloads as you mentioned. I went to my c: drive and put a folder there and then linked a folder desklet to that folder. It works as you say, but for some reason, the sublabel does not update the number of files I have in the folder. Has this been an issue with you?

Btw, I highly doubt I would stop using AveDesk, b/c I really do like the app and I think its very useful in the information it provides. :)

Thanks for your time Phat-Liz0rd!

...Or has anyone else had this same issue??

What kind of label format are you using? If you want to see the number of ALL items in this download folder, you should do something like : %f%r (number of files - count in subfolders too). If you just do %f, it wont count the number of files in subfolders!

E.g.: in my download folder, using "%f files" as a sublabel will get me "3 files". However, using "%f%r files" will get me "2853 files". This might solve your problem :D

________________________________________________________________________________

For the sublabel properties, you should

  1. rightclick the desklet
  2. select "desklet properties"
  3. select the "label format" tab
  4. change the sublabel format to what you want ("%f%r Files" for example)

#292855

I am using this label format: "%f files"

What I mean is if I had a file to the desklet folder or download something to this folder, sublabel does not change. For instance, if it said "3 files" before I added another one file, it still says "3 files". No information in the sublabel changes. Maybe I will try "%f%r" later tonight and see if that changes anything.

#292929

Are you sure you are downloading in that exact folder? Dont forget that with the %f setting, avedesk will only count files, not folders or files in subfolders!

#292983

Thanks for the tip, Liz0rd...I was wondering how you get subfolder counts, and was too lazy to check out the long list!
