Personally i use gaim for my aim client. I think it also supports msn and plenty others. You can pick it up at http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

actually, miranda does support avatars for Yahoo too. However you can't set your avatar with the current plugin, you can only see your buddies' avatars (in case they use the official YIM client).

MSN avatar is fully supported as most everybody knows. Hopefully they'll release a new Y! plugin with full avatar support.
