Should I Trade My Ibook?

i was looking around the Macrumors.com forum in the sell \ trade section and this one guy was wanting to trade his iMac 800 MHZ g4 with 512 mb, and superdrive for a 800 mhz ibook.. I offered mine and he emailed me saying he was interested in mine and included pictures.

What would you do?

The iMac is 800 mhz G4 15" model with 512 ram and Superdrive and a 60 gb HD

My iBook is 800 MHz G3 12.1" modem with 512 ram and Combo drive with a 30 gb HD.

Portability vs Altivec .. hm

it depends on if you need the portability or not

i'd pick the iBook, because I have no place to put the iMac, my desk is completely covered, plus i just got a new desktop a couple of months ago.

find out how much each cost new, use that as leverage if yours was more and try to get a little extra.

(some software with licences perhaps)

unless you use your ibook as a portable, i'd go for it

yea, the only reason i would keep the iBook was if i needed the portability....

i do need the portability because of moving in and out of the dorms, so i will be in laptop mode for the next 3 years or so

The iMac will be faster in certain (altivec) apps like FCP, Maya etc... so if you're into heavy sound/video editiing go for it.

Also, do consider the fact that the iMac is not portable - DUH! :P

i've personally found that buying a laptop was a waste of money. Maybe its different in the US where you might fly around the country to get to uni, but for me i get picked up by my parents at the end of term and theres little need to take the laptop from my room.

**wish i'd bought a powermac instead of this stinkin tosh ;)

Well its Lewes town to be precise, but I guess you wont know that. Btw I was up near Warwick like 2 days ago looking at the Castle on a field trip :)

i think i've heard of Lewes, but i think that might be the name of an island in scotland, so maybe i'm just confused. Canterbury is my home town, so not too far away..

Whats so interesting about warwick castle that you got to come all the way up here for a field trip?

i never got to do stuff like that when i was at school

oh yeah, if someone in the uk is bored with their powermac, i'll gladly relieve you of it ;)

I dont know actually, we didnt seem to do much, just walked around it and generally just wasted time :P, I've been to Canterbury aswell, thats quite far from Warwick though isnt it?

Yeah they're 4 hours apart by car, i really succeeded in getting away from home ;)

I get to live in my own place next year though, so the difference won't matter much longer.

edit: for dhs - it takes about 12 hours to get to the tip of scotland...

#25988

whoa, what? how can you be four hours away from something on an island? am i just being ignorant? is england really that big?

#25990

There's a PM feature ;)
