Aqua-Soft ForumsGuys, I just bought an iPod Shuffle Sunday. It's the 1 GB model, and quite frankly, I love it, and it is a worthy updrade from my old 16 MB unit. (and 1/4 the size 
) However, I get a lot of error # 36s and "Preferences could not be saved because the iPod could not be found" errors. What do I do to fix this? I've tried different USB ports. To add songs to it, I have to reformat it each time. I have iTunes 4.7.2 and iPod Shuffle updater 1.1.

Hmm, that seems strange. Try using a different USB port. Maybe upgrade to iTunes 4.8.
I've tried different USB ports, I've checked the 'net, and it seems a lot of people are having this problem. I'll get iTunes 4.8 tonight. (or is 4.9 released yet? It saw something about it on the front page.)

I tryed this, works but doesn´t solve the probem
- as soon as I plug the shuffle, use the iPod updater to restore to factory settings,
- unplug (save remove)
- place only the songs I want to hear in the iTunes library
- plug again, let the iTunes recognice it and let it autofill.
I know, Iknow, I know not the best solution, but I can lisent to music

I'm also having this error popup and only can load new itunes into my ipod if i reset the shuffle. I dont know if this means anything but I started having problems since I reformatted my computer (win xp) now this errors occurs any suggestions?
so you have to reformat your shuffle everytime you want new songs on it? doesn't sound too convenient...
via iTunes, just make sure you have 'enable disk use' set to off (unchecked), and the playlist for your ipod is kept in the source list (i.e. the left hand sidebar). the title of the ipod might also need to just be one word (no spaces), i've read that that may cause some errors.
worse comes to worse you could try using winamp 5+ with the ml_pod plugin - i think that just recognises the iPod as just another usb drive - and does its own mapping to the filetype used in the shuffled, etc.
I've been going crazy over my shuffle as well and it seems my pc is either so old or so modded that there is some kind of problem. Solution: good old winamp with the ml_ipod plugin as described above. what a relief!!! 
yup soon as i found out about ml_ipod, i havent touched itunes. i love it!
the only time i get that message is when i have my shuffle plugged into the usb port, and then try to remove/add songs to it in itunes. It will begin the process but then end out w/ that error. The best and easiest work around... plug in and in option, select to keep ipod in playlist. now unplug and never eject ipod playlist.
now... w/o the ipod being plugged in, simply do what you want to the playlist... autofill, drag and drop, etc... when you have it the way you want it, simply plug in the shuffle to let it update....
that process works like a charm for me... and its actually faster than trying to remove songs and add new ones w/ the shuffle plugged in b/c as you remove a song, the shuffle updates, and then it updates again when you add a new song...
if you update the playlist, the ipod will search for songs currently on the shuffle and sync that list w/ the new playlist, cuttin your transfer time drastically... hope this helps
