Aqua-Soft ForumsHelp! I recently purchased an iBook G3 (600mhz, 256mb, 20gb) and I have a problem. I have no audio from either of the internal speakers, or from the audio jack. The only sound I can hear is when the iBook starts up and I hear the startup chime. I am running 10.3.9, so maybe upgrading to Tiger would fix the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, all the volume prefs are ok. Sound is all the way up, and I've tried playing CD's, MP3's...

haha that was exactly my problem , not even three different apple tech support phone mofos knew that has to do with other sounds (apart from finder empty/move etc).
If you can hear the starup noise then your speakers are fine, just to make sure though, go to Apps>Utilities>Audio MIDI setup>configure speakers>and press the speakers (you should hear static), if you hear static then your speakers arnt at fault.
Try reinstalling Panther before you go out and buy tiger, if that doesn't help, then you have worse problem. If you hear no static at all, then some hardware is messed up and unless you got applecare or a tech repair friend youre out of luck.

Then it must not be recognizing the speakers, reinstall panther bub, and if that doesnt work then you have a hardware issue. Good luck
is there drivers in macs? if there is i would recomend just reinstalling the drivers for the sound card on the ibook. but i dont realy know what im talking about in mac. thats what i would do in windows.
I looked around, and I think that Macs don't really have the "drivers" that windows PCs have.... not sure tho- I've also heard something about starting the system in "classic" mode. I don't have the os 9 cd's, but i could get them(if it could help the problem?)
Ok. I have aquired several of the original iBook system 9 restore CDs. One of them is a "Software Restore", another is "Software Install", and yet another is labeled "Apple Hardware Test - For Diagnosing Hardware Problems." The discs say that the OS version is version 9.0.4, and I'm not sure how I boot in OS 9 to install the hardware drivers. Any help would be greatly appreciated-thanks.
