Aqua-Soft Forumsi'm looking for the best price on a 15" powerbook. so far the only discounts i've encountered are the education discounts that are available for college students. is there anything else stackable? i'm looking on fatwallet right now.

For the latest powerbook lineup, edu discount at apple would be the best, if you want a new albeit older model amazon would be the place to look for, however if you want second hand, I'd hit the macnn marketplace forums and ebay.

and I'd like a powermac dual 2.7 for only 500 dollars with an ipod!. Lol seriously, a hundred or so is a lot you wont find any 30% off deal or anything like that, although you can find them cheaper if you go for an older revision. Deals are deals, they're for a limited time only if you don't grab them then, youre out of luck 
applemacshops.com is giving $300 off their PB's, and it looks like they're the latest versions too. (best i've seen so far)

If you're looking for recent (last 6 months) and don't mind if it's a revision or so off, look at CompUSA. The one by my house was giving "Manager's Specials" on some of their stuff (they took $600 off their Dual G5 2.0 GHz - again, slightly out of date, but still recent and solid).
Don't get your hopes up though; I think they only have them for the higher end stuff (17in methinks).

i decided i'll go with a 15" Albook with the educational discount. It'll be the combo drive version, and with 64MB video ram and 512mb physical ram.
Is a superdrive really necessary? The superdrive version that also features the 1.67Ghz processor is $300 more, which is a ripoff. I COULD add the superdrive to the 1.5 Ghz version and pay $150 more, but I find that I burn a CDRW less than once a year, let alone a DVD. I think the $150 price hike for 512 more ram is ridicululous, so I'll try to grab a stick from newegg and install later in the summer. And more than 64mb video ram isn't needed for this notebook, is it?
i've also read problems of warping, lid/hinge problems, etc. are these fixed in the latest release of the PB's?

64mb will be fine as long as you dont do hard video editing or are a gamming person, the superdrive isnt necesary in your case as you hardly burn, you can always upgrade it later via many 3rd party products should you choose to want one. RAM should be bought from newegg like you said, you can get a much better deal there. Good luck.
I do do a little gaming (warcraft 3), and I might want to hook it up to my 20" Dell 2005FPW flatpanel widscreen sometimes as well, will 64MB be enough for that?

For the RAM, buy it from Crucial, they are great with warranties and price. 64mb should be fine - I play WoW and WC3:TFT all the time, and the graphics are great.

don't know much about notebooks, interesting---so maybe in a couple years if i need it, i'll pick up a superdrive and just pop it in--great!
a friend was telling me that when she bought her powerbook two years ago, apple gave her the educational discount, a free printer and a free carrying case. does anyone know of a deal like this going on now?

i've got about $2200 including taxes to spend. i wish they allowed an upgrade to the 128mb ram vid card for the 1.5Ghz powerbooks at apple.

Is it posible to use a ATAPI DVD burner inside a firewire enclosure? that's what I'd do, since I definitely don't need to burn DVDs portably.
