Who decides what makes the frontpage news?

Ive been very disappointed with the frontpage news for this website. everydau its more or less just loads of wallpaper, and icons. meanwhile, there are much better and more usefull skins, widgets, and 3rd party apps that are being released, yet they receive no mention.

i applied to become one of the front page news people, but didint get it. but that was my plan if i did, to get more variety instead of the same 5 a day releases of wallpaper and icons.

if there is a good reason for this happening, i do apologize and remit my statement.

The thing is that - even if Unbeliever is breaking his back to get things to go right, most of the newsposters are slackers and just dont post when they are supposed to but more when they feel like it.

Its really a shame - people accept the responsability and then they **** on it, i guess tahts how their lives will be.

I broke my back writing the rules, trying to make newsposting as easy as possible, giving suggestions and whatnot, but apparently people apply to be newsies just for the badge (except for few individuals who really do their best and whome i respect for that)

I am aware that front page is a mess, but trust me, it`s not cause i didn`t try

This is what we need people - dedicated members of the community that are willing to do their best for the community. Its not like its a full time job like being a mod (trust me, not as easy as it looks) it only requires an extra amount of effort to tell your other fellow community members about what is going on around.

There are different "positions" in the newsposting community. From my perspective as a Daily Newsposter, I cover the major releases on my day (Tuesday) and add posts when something major happens but isn't covered. Gwing does a really good job getting everything, however.

We have our Weeklies (pyn and NC if I'm not mistaken) who cover major weekly things, such as Konfabulator 2.0, but they only have to mention the stuff and tell you it's out there.

We then have our Apps people, who go more in-depth into applications, such as Adium and Konfabulator (when they get to it). Our app people don't post that often, unfortunately, but they do a good job when they do.

We also have our GUI reviewers, who test themes over a period of time and write about it. Again, this takes time so they may post only once or twice a month.

I plan to post more often, since we really only have 2 effective Dailies, but there's only so much that I can do with IB, Finals, etc. Gwing is already doing an incredible job and needs some help (I think he posts 3 or 4 days a week).

Oh, as to the original question:

The poster at the time decides what is worthwhile and if someone else feels that it was missed, they cover it themselves. I personally go through the "New Posts" and click on everything that is tagged as a release (and those that are in release forums). I then personally choose all that show talent or effort and post them on the FP. If I see something offsite (usually at MacThemes or MacNN), I'll post that as well, but I try to focus on Icons, Themes, and Wallpapers as Apps and other goodies fall in the Weekly (and other people's) realm.

wow. im glad i made this post! i remember 2 years ago when the front page of both aqua-soft, and aquaxp told me everything i needed to know, instead of having to just look through new posts daily to see what the latest innovations are..

See, as a Daily Newsposter, I have to try to sift through all the releases on the board for the best of the best; sometimes this lengthy process means that I miss a few quality releases. When this happens, I cringe, mentally apologize to the author, and put it in my next post. If you'll look at posts 5/26 and 27 or so, you'll see that a couple of the releases were actually 2 or 3 days old by the time they were posted.

Posting news isn't an easy job. You'll have to look through countless threads to figure out which ones need posting about and which ones are old.

Finally, Daily Newsposts are indeed about community releases. You will get an endless deluge of skins, icons, and wallpapers. Some are amazing, some are "only" great. In order to really give a sense of everything that's happened in one day of the community, I have to post on all of it. If you really take the time to look through the simple 4 or 5 releases every day I guaruntee you'll find something useful every day. Trust me, it's a lot fewer threads than I have to look through.

And hey, if any newspost does in fact miss something important, PM Unbe, NC, or even me and we'll get right on it.
