Aquafy.net - New Site- Need your Help

Well, i'm planning on starting aquafy.net.

Basically, we will host downloads and mirrors of files used to emulate OS X, etc. on the windows platform.

THe problem i'm having is choosing a system, and mainly because of a skin.

We were going to use Mambo, but couldn't find a good Mac-ish skin.

I found this one:

But $50 is a lot, when I only want access to that one template, not all of them.

So, please give me ideas on what systems to use. They must have some sort of Apple-ish design available.

It would be better if you offered him mirrors/bandwith, as osx-e is basically the best place right now to get emulation files (well not all, but most).

Yes, variety. But 8 different sites doing essentially the exact same thing isn't variety. Trust me, ive been in my fair share of communities, and ive seen how everyone wants to create a wannabe/copy/lookalike/similarity/ site. Dont get me wrong creating sites worthwhile are great, fun, and really useful; just make sure the site is unique, original, out-there, cool and has alot of effort put into it.

Thanks for all the ideas. I really don't know what to do now. All these words about variety have put me down. I guess there are better sites out there than mine. Not even worth starting

Sometimes, if you are just being a member of a very active site, you can give back to the community more than you would with a new, good mirror site. Alright. I went ahead and bought the original $50 template, so at least the site will look good. I guess I will just start it hosting mirrors. Who knows what it can turn into?

I agree with NC - I think that instead of doing this, you should just try to help out existing sites.

Now don't get me wrong, I think it's great that you're this enthusiastic and what not - but what will make this site more unique, more different, something that people will want to go to? What will you offer that osx-e and other sites won't?

? What do you expect me tod do? Did I ever get one bit about a template? That was the whole point of an original post. Since no one went ahead and suggested stuff I just bought the template. Now you guys have suggestions?

I am going to ask the site for a refund. We'll see what they say.

The ads is for the server and maintenance work which is very high. Currently I'm on 5Gb of space and 500Gb bandwidth, so just guess how much cost involved. I'm not making any profit on it. Try show me one download site that doesn't have a single ads on the site. The site is unorganized because I run most of the site alone (besides zillah, careyt, fmpuk and mmgui who just helping me mod the forum). But this is not an excuse for me, in a few weeks or so, you will see newly improve and more organized osx-e. I have some extra time right now to work on the site.

If you would like to start a new emulation site, go ahead. Just don't copy cat and existing site, make it your own, unique and put something that visitors couldn't find in other sites.

I'm stating the fact too. Thats the reason why most of the site for aqua emulation stuffs is come and go. Because the cost to maintain it is very high. Sometime, you have to dig deep into your own pocket just to make sure the site is still alive.

I can offer you the best hosting you want and for free although i'm really curious how you will make your site different from the sites surrounding aqua-soft.

By the way, alang, I've fixed your site so it now has 500gb of webspace and 800gb of bandwidth. There shouldn't be any problems like there was anymore since i've talked to some people :wiseguy:
