Batman Begins Rust
very very cool! Using it now. A tutorial on how you achieved the effect would be appreciated.

This is a relatively simple creation. For a quick and dirty method of recreating this follow this methodology:
1) download the batman returns symbol
2) find a picture of dry dirt, or better yet, rust!
3) greyscale the rust or dirt
4) add a new transparent layer and color it brown
5) right click on that new layer and change the blending options.. so that it creates a even flow of color (pick at your own discretion)
6) merge the layers together
7) duplicat the layer
8) place the batman symbol in the center of your masterpiece.
9) either outline the image or make it a path.. your choice
10) after it has been outlined, select the cutout feature from the filters list (i think its there)
11) drop shadow from the top cut out layer onto the bottom layer
12) you are done
PS how the crap are you going to say its a secret... by no means is this a hard process.. if a person asks, just give it to them.... ugh
PPS feel free to post the actual method that you went through. For some reason i feel that you used an action script for the rust...
one of the elders has spoken!

It was a simple proccess, but god... here's how i did it.
batman logo (vector) + rust bg (stock)
grayscaled the rust bg, surface blurred it and faded it 50%
placed layer above with it linked to the rust bg and made a gradient layer style light to dark brown
created a new layer for lighting/shadows
created a new layer for batman logo, linked a copy of the rust layer to it, made a darker brown radial gradient on it, inner shadow, satin, bevel and emboss, drop shadow, and outer glow (values at your discretion)
added a layer linked for lighting/shadow
tweaked around...walah. yours was similar, but i didn't do the rust myself, it was stock. the batman logo i found a vector of...muahaha.
happy now?
god, must i explain my work? or cant i just release it?! sheesh.
btw, i tried to make it similar to how it looks when the batman begins site loads (the flash part)

Thanks Lou! They look great!
I'm Batman...
There are millions of tutorials on how to do rust on the net, why does it matter how Lou did it or pressuring him to explain even though he politely said no? I didn't see how he needed to prove anything.

sure thing wiz!
i know you are.
thanks wizard. that's exactly my frustration. you dont see rade8 or david lanham telling how they do their stuff, regardless of how "simple" one might see it. they don't go around explaining how they do things... or have someone else go and explain it so others can make it... sheesh...
can i retire yet? ![]()

Ill harass them next
WHOA.
What brings you back to the land of AS, ad3x?
I remember you stopped posting shortly after 1 year after I joined.

he wasn't really harassing Lou, just asking how to do it. Never know, a future contributor might've been born ![]()
anyway, thanks for the wall Lou.
Lou, can you please tell me how you got that lovely white text over the red in your signature? I bet that was done with layers and linking and rust too! Also what font is it and what size did you use? Thanks!
