Which Next gen console will you get?

my opinion, consoles are a waste of money. I'll stick with my computer.

Although if i was going to buy one tomorrow i would buy a revolution, cos i have always been a nintendo fan, and loved super smash bros on the 64 and would love to play ddr with mario, cos i love ddr

oh and you can already get your hands on the manual for the ps3 controller, it was leaked:

ahaha, so funny, so true...

Playstation won the war of consoles everytime!

It was alwys like that.

And there were always more games I think.

I´ll get a Ps3 and a PSP

I am expecting better game graphics on the PS3, simply because the PS3 will be using Blu-Ray discs, where as the 360 will only be using double layered dvds.

What does DVD disk capacity have to do with graphics quality?

The ONLY difference between Blu-Ray and DVD-DL is capacity. Has absoloutly nothing to do with the graphics rendering capabilities of the console itself.

So the PS3 can have longer movies in the intro and between game play? BFD! It's total waste of disk space and poor use of the technology.

I want better game play... if I want to watch a movie I'll go to Blockbuster and rent one.

Pft, NetFlix is waaaaaaaaaaay better. ;)

However, Video on Demand through Digital Cable may be even better... :o

#288766

Yea, I almost for got about them, except NetFlix takes a few days to get your movie.

I use OnDemand PPV, but most of the movies available on PPV have sucked lately.

I've had to go to Blockbuster or Hollywood Video just to get anything decent.

MS aren't using standard DVD. They haven't confirmed their media, but they said they'll be using some sort of next gen format like HD-DVD or something. they haven't confirmed because they say now it's too risky to say something like "Bluray" and find out that it flops in the market. Sony has a history with ****ty failing formats: ATRAC, MiniDisc, UMD (it won't be useful outside the PSP). Bluray could very well follow suit.

Then I guess Apple was pretty stupid to back Blue Ray then...

Blue Ray, IMO, looks more promising than HD-DVD.

Blue Ray will win over HD-DVD not only because of its superior specs, but also the name.

Think about it, which sounds better, HD-DVD or Blue Ray? Blue Ray does.

[offtopic] Personally I think the name "iPod" helped Apple sell the iPod because of name recognition. If you think of an iPod you immediatlely think of a white rounded rectangle with a gray click-wheel. When you think of a iRiver H10, nothing really pops in your mind unless you visit their website. More capacity means a lot more to game quality than just cutscenes. Do you think extra gameplay just comes free, or higher quality music and sound? How about extra dialogue or more textures? What about buying a single disc and getting all of the previous games in a long series of games like mortal combat or final fantasy? Or having a breif synopse of the story of a previous installment of a game series?

Pre-rendered video is only a waste when youre sacrificing actual gameplay for it, but in many recent games, especially rpgs, they already have long real time cutscenes full of story. In those cases, if you have the extra space, why not?

Just quoting your own post...

Perhaps it is you who needs to re-read what was posted.

My response... Read it slowly if you don't understand.

You need glasses, or a spelling lesson.

ps3=PS3, PS3 is the abbreviation for the popular games console known as the playstation 3, PPC is the abbreviation for A cpu core made by macintosh.

What I said was Xbox 360 and PS3 (ps3=PS3=Playstation 3) have different cores....(ps3 does not mean PPC)

geez...

here we go again! all this fighting... *world peace*

#289352

Sorry I dont want to start a war...but I dont want to look like a dill either, when somebody needs glasses.

#289353

Heck lets not get anymore pushy and shovey!

All we are doing is speculating at the moment, the real test will come when they are released and played...even then we will still have debates over which is better...

Speculating is fun though! lets just not argue about something inconclusive!

#289356

see that's better (i hope) now stop double posting :)

#289357

old habit...soz....sorry in advance.

#289359

Xbox 360 :D

#289373

To put it to rest finaly... XBox 360 and PS3 are both PPC based consoles.

So when you said they had different cores, you were wrong. They use the exact same PPC core.

I work for IBM, and not as some lame helpless desk jockey either. I work in the network security division but I have several friends over in the manufacturing division that have been working pretty closely with these projects. I've also been in this industry longer than half the members of this board have been on this earth. I can tell you for a fact that the Cell CPU used in the PS3 uses the exact same PPC core that is placed in the XBox 360.

If you understood what a white paper is and how to read it, you would understand.

And yes, I'm subborn headed when I know I'm right.

#289494

Yes i'm a stubborn head when i know i'm right as well...but unfortunately this time I happened to be wrong...

Sorry...never the less Xbox 360 has 3 cores PS3 has 8 spe cores, right?

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614783p1.html

That was my original point...perhaps i worded it wrong...

lol...*Peace man*

#289604

I have several friends over in the manufacturing division that have been working pretty closely with these projects.

Soo you have friends inside the system.

End this whole big debate on which is more powerful by just asking them. A lot of bandwith would be saved.

You would be a hero....

Probably PS3...have you seen those screenshots :P

#289728

Yeah, Ive seen the prerendered screenshots. Nice, arent they? Really show what a PowerMac can do if left for a few hours.

Gesh, can't somebody give their opinion without you going into your antiSony-proXbox mode? We are at least 8 months away from PS3 launch, the last that I heard, you don't work for Sony. Get over yourselves.

#289770

It doesnt appear he can. Halo fanatics!

It doesnt matter which one is better hardware wise anyways. The playstation 2 has been top dog since its release despite the fact the xbox has better hardware. The reason being is they have better games than xbox. The same thing happened when the n64 was competing with the psone: despite the 64 being more powerful, it didnt have the game selection as the psone. Game selection and game quality has always been the top selling point for consoles, not the system itself.

#289812

Like Chi-CHi said... it doesn't matter how powerful the console is.

If the games suck, the console will fail.

As for the inside scoop, the Cell CPU isn't even finished yet. Outside a few prototypes and a few pre-production runs to work out the bugs, it's all still pretty much on paper. Sony does not have any chips yet.

Everything you see from Sony right now is an artists rendering.

That's what I'm getting from the inside... I can't go into further details without running the risk of getting in trouble. So please don't ask.

#289920

I like the n64 better than the PS1, and the Xbox better than the PS2... because of games. It's not like I go out and buy a thousand games - a "bigger" game selection isn't what counts; rather the quality of the games that are out.
