Aqua-Soft ForumsI want to transfer my mp3 files from my Vaio laptop to my new Powerbook. Should I use the ethernet or firewire cable for the transfer? Also, what option should I check on Windows to allow the sharing?

[help] Transferring music files from PC to Mac
To allow sharing:
Right click on the drive that your music is on. Select Properties, then click on the "Sharing" tab. Enable sharing.
Your PowerBook should recognize your Vaio if they're on the same network.
Not sure about hotsyncing with FireWire though.
Personally, to transfer music between computers, I'd put it on an iPod or a DVD.
for a one-time transfer i suggest connecting via ethernet, assigning ip addresses and starting an ftp server on the sony. you'll find a bunch of freeware ftp servers on www.snapfiles.com
if you need to transfer files on a daily basis then set up a real network with file sharing and whatnot, otherwise this is easier.
I gotta second the FTP notion, it's the easiest way to read/write on NTFS
Just create a share on you Vaio where the files are stored and then connect to it from you PB via an SMB://%Vaio IP address%/%sharename% connection.
Connecting to a share via SMB from a Mac does not require the ability to read/write to NTFS... that's the whole reason why M$ created the ability in the first place. The host machine (Windows box) does all the filesystem translation.
FTP is great if you already have it installed, but pointless if your only going to use it once to transfer files.
Why must people try and over complicate a very easy task? Remember, keep it simple and use what you already have. There is no need to install 3rd party apps to perform this task.
