Shocking New For Macs Vs Pc.

Get real, we are talking about HOME usage, and small business... Not empires of computer usage... We are talking about real people with not so much money who are falling for nothing, because REAL people don't sit there and have bull running all over there computer using that much CPU usage... most people don't even use more than 6 apps at one time...

So

1. Please relise that your not the only computer user in the world.

2. Remember that most computer users here are for home use

3. A 1ghz proccessor is way more than enough for video editing. I do it my self.

I have never ever had to wait 3 hours for any thing on my 1ghz. I can transfer

80 gigs of information thru a network to my server in 35mins, and back.

Also the 64 bit edition PCs have only been around for a few years, and never had software that was capable of using the actually full 64 bits, computers are built on 32 bit design, and only have software for 32 bit, there for if you do have 64 bit your not using the hole thing unless you have the software that's compataible for it... DUHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Now take your sack and shove it...

Lets face facts here... a 1ghz computer can work just as good, as a 3ghz computer. There's no software out there on the market that would even need to use more than 1ghz, And there will never be because of the simple fact that the current computer BIT is too low to handle anything further. In the future maybe, like for instance the 64 bit edition pcs, much better but don't need more than 1.5 ghzs.

Have you ever waited for a 3 hour render, the realise you forgot to add a light?

#156695

I HAVE!!

about 3/4 years ago...

i tried rendering this animation of a basketball going into a net in bryce4 <_<

i was running a p2 266 mhz w/ 32mb ram and a "64-bit lightening fast graphics accelerator" with 2 mb ram  :naughty: :smartass:

#156697

Im capable of running the sims and all of their expansion packs up to makin magic, on my 400mhzs computer upstairs.

Bull****

#156698

And you would know this how? Because im doing it! So may god strike me dead this instant!

I often find that insulting a member of staff of the site you're posting on is the best way to make friends...

64 bit personal computers have been around for years. Just because you assume personal computer = Wintel/WinAMD, doesn't mean that's true.

Try researching Alpha, to name one of many. It's been around since 1992, and was designed for workstation use.

Also, There are well over 12000 programs quite capable of using 64 bit, as contra would happily tell you - they're all open source, and for *nix OSes.

And don't say *nix OSes aren't for home users - I'll set contra onto you.

You tell me to realise my computer isn't the only one in the world - I'm well aware that every user's usage differs. My point, however, is that your claims are based on poor examples, and don't apply.

Also, you may not experience this, but I know of many home users for whom their current PC ~1GHz is "noticeably laggy", even for single application use. The reason? They unknowingly run other applications in the background.

"most computer users here are for home use" - I would retort that most users of Aqua-Soft are typically what would be classified as "power users" - if you know how to skin Windows (or even know what Windows is) you're a cut above the average home user.

As lostspyder pointed out, have you ever tried waiting for a 3 hour render? It's not fun, and I know of home users who would happily pay vast amounts of money extra to speed that up. Why should they wait if they (unwittingly) use a feature which, as far as they're concerned, is just another feature of an application, but adds 2.5 hours to their render-time?

Also, telling me to "take my sack and shove it" isn't very friendly.

Its funny, this thread was made before the g5 :o

I agree with your statement that it is very mean, but im a tough person to argue with. Another words if you don't want a good argument don't put things up the opose my statments. Im very sure you know other people here like that.

I'll give you points on the 64 bit thing, but as you said, not many of those programs are used by "US". So that leave the hole 64 bit thing useless to those of us who have it, with out software that is compatible for it. and most of us don't have software thats compatible for it. Im sure there are people who use them, but my friends don't, my grandmother don't, no one i know does. So it's not a VAST thing, just for those with no lives and those who are working at places that do that kinda stuff, they mite even do a little of it at home...

The avrage computer buyer doesn't use programs like that any way, and there's ALOT of simple people out there buying computers. Not every ones a computer tech, most people don't know the first thing but how to get online. (if they can turn it on first, LOL)

Computers come to very select people easy.

My point and statements where to the simple people, who make a large majority of the computer market sales.

Just about every one i know but a few people have 1ghz - 1.5ghz computers. And they run perfectly. My best friend has a 1ghz, and a brand new 2ghz computer and she has all kinda trouble with her 2ghz, it's a dell, HAHAHA...

I guess I should say sorry about "take your sack and shove it" at least i didn't say the entire frase, when i do that means im really mad...

Honestly I came to this comunity to learn, and help. But it's kinda hard when all your geting is posts, and nothing new is coming out, no more effort is being put into making new stuff. Projects are done slowly, and one man jobs at that. It's like no one here can work together, and two heads are better than one.

There's many obsticals when working with other people yes, but in the end you come to a compermise, and then release something that's truely great!

People also come here to get info about mod, and find nothing but broken links, and that's no good to alot of people. There is an area aqua soft should work on, finding away to make sure every one gets to enjoy something.

All in my own opinion remember that, not much worth fighting over...

Are you for real? >.< <_<, would you please provide for free reliable hosting in which developers and themers can store their files so newcomers can bump old threads and download 1 year old files? Great, people, all you problems are solved, PM him about hosting that will give you links that will last forever.

Because all of Timmie's ideas end in pain?

And usually for me...

@zandor: This isn't about scoring points. My entire point was that your arguments are based on flawed metrics. Just because you can't currently see any need for 1+GHz CPUs doesn't mean that there isn't one - who knows what the future holds?

As for the whole collaboration thing, if you'd taken a little time to look around you'd see that, in just under 14 days, I'm going to re-embark on leading (that is the worst set of words I've ever strung together) what the smokescreen team and I hope will revolutionise skinning and emulation.

Alright, but based on that logic you'd have to agree that then most computers would be using some form of windows, and it's no secret that windows is happier the more hardware you throw at it.

I have never ever had to wait 3 hours for any thing on my 1ghz.

Then it's clear that you're not doing very advanced video editing, anything that has the word "render" on it and lasts more than 10 minutes on the completed product would take you more time than you're thinking.

And following this "good enough" logic, a CD burner with anything more than 2X is just showing off right? It gets the job done, don't even worry about the time it takes to do it in :P

Megahertz isn't a myth, the rating system is.

Macs should not switch to intels (unless it's a centrino styled cpu, the p4's have way to many stages), AMD might be the way to go.

Companies that rely on timed products know that shaving a few seconds on a project, spread over the course of numerous man hours translates into huge savings.

What we need is more efficient coding, not faster chips to hide programming mistakes.

Try converting, encoding and burning a large video file on a 1ghz machine using pc-100\133 memory, goodbye social life.

64bit computing is the present, the same way 32bit succeded 16bit which succeded 8bit....., most

computer analysts said we would never require 32bit pcs way back when (an overkill they said).

Obviously these "knowledgeable" experts didn't foresee "photoshoping" "dvd burning" "mpeg/divx encoding ..." .

Finish rant next time. baseball followed by NBA playoffs (spurs/lakers) nuff said.

There is no reason for this discussion. It's like saying that coke is better than pepsi.

If you like coke and coke do all you need then coke is the best for you, if pepsi do all you need then pepsi is the best for you.

If you like mac stay with mac, if you like pc stay with pc.

This is the only right answer. No matter how technical you can get it all comes down to preference.

OMG this really got me. I stopped myself twice, went back to check on the render in the other cubical, but i couldnt stop thinking about it. I'm so sorry.

Like the last couple of posts:

Exactly, stop this bs comparisons we've had enough of it, focus on what you guys love the most - skinning, and stfu.

Most importantly - whoever bumped this thread should get stoned till paralized. Anyway, whats "my left hand" for fukk sake? is it for what I think it is?

What stupid eff can reply to a ONE YEAR OLD THREAD that has dp 800mhz G4 as the latest word.

Just try to replay this incident in your heads, the guy registers few days ago to this forum, then instead of looking for the key pinned topics he instead digs in the life of General Discussions, going 360 days back or EVER. Then, with the infinite list of threads, he chose something that was ended and unbelievabley outdated.

My god!
