[Help] Replacing Avi From Shell32.dll To Another

First of all, flyakite, thank you for your PM...I have Iceman's shell32.dll installed replacing my WinXP SP1 system files...I am very pleased! However after thoroughly reviewing flyakite's tweaked System files and READ ME file, I really like the AVI's in his Shell32.dll that show the Blue Candy Cane progress bar, incorporated from Sosumu...

In order to acheive this effect, I have to extract the AVI's from flyakite's shell32.dll file by opening it in Reshacker...Once extraced, (AVI 160-1033) then take a copy of Iceman's Shell32.dll (opened in a seperate Reshacker-I think) and replace his AVI's with ones that I want from flyakite's file...Then replace the old Shell32.dll (Iceman's) with the new one that I just modified...

Here is where I get confused...Reshacker in its 'Action tab' give the option once AVI 160-1033 is extracted to replace icon, bitmap, ect., but does not have an option to replace an AVI (would this then be 'replace a other resource'???

I have just successfully completed Makki's very cool Safari Mod tweaks for my IE 6.1 browser, using Reshacker to replace the bitmaps to (2) Safari bitmaps, but trying to replace the AVI's from one Shell32.dll (flyakite) to another Shell32.dll (Iceman), has me a little confused in trying to complete it with Reshacker...I have thoroughly reviewed the complete HELP section in Reshacker...

If someone could kindly guide me through this process, it would be greatly appreciated... I really do not want to take the less complicated process of just replacing Iceman's Shell32.dll (6.25 MB) with flyakite's Shell32.dll (3.73 MB)...

Thanks...

P.S. I have reviewed Sone's "2 Tools To Make File Replacement..." thread too!

Okay, here is what you have to do.

In the AVI subfolder, find one of the AVIs you want. Right click it and choose "Save [AVI : 160 : 1033]..."

In Iceman's file, open it in ResHacker (make sure you're not trying to directly edit the one in system32. Make a copy, and place it on your desktop and edit that one) then go to the same AVI, 160 or whatever.

Right click it, choose "Replace Resource" and then click the "Open file with new resource..." button. Find the AVI file. Then in Resource Type box put AVI. Under name put the number you're replacing, like 160 or whatever. Then under Language, if you have are using English, type 1033.

Once you've replaced all the AVIs you want. Save it, then replace the old system32 the same way you did before.

Hope that helps :)

@flyakite, OK...the key to your excellect directions is "(make sure you're not trying to directly edit 'Iceman's' shell32.dll in System 32) 'folder'...LOL, I already tried that way, however no harm was done!

With give it another try...and 'thanks again'!!! If I don't get it this time, I will be content with having the default Windows (yellow folder to yellow folder action...No biggie...

This however, has given me a much needed 'Tutorial' on using ResHacker properly when (the whole process) gets a little more involved then (i.e a bitmap replacement)

@flyakite:

Yes...excellent my Aqua-soft forum colleague! The key (just as you accurately stated) was to make a copy of my original 'tweaked' Shell32.dll and copy it to my desktop...Then I can open up that one in ResHacker and replace the AVI's that I wanted with yours...

Then 'save it' and use it (modified Shell32.dll) to replace my original tweaked copy...Windows File Protection (WMP) Pop Up... click 'Cancel'...then click 'Yes' to the following dialog...Bingo...Success...

Thank you ! B)

Wich Program can i use to edit my own flying-paper ani..

If it's an AVI you will need a movie editor (many, most are expensive some in the $40)or some GIF-Animation editors do Gif-Animation to AVI don't know about going backwards. Try MS Moviemaker part of WindowsXP, or Ulead Gif Animation otherwise you will need to find a bigger name movie editor.

Where did you get your animation ? If you did it how ?

This relates indirectly for I did not want to open a new thread...

Recently, my MSN Explorer 8 upgraded to 8.5...minor changes to GUI, but overall better integration with the whole browsing experience...

I understand that any upgrade of a browser or a Hotfix from MS, could replace the tweaked Mac emulation files that one has...

All my tweaked files have been fine (yahoo), with the tiny exception of this:

When I log on to MSN 8.5 Explorer, when connected from my 'Mac telephone receiver systray icon...a text bubble would come on stating, "MSN Explorer is now connected Speed:48.5 kpbs"...in this text bubble, it use to have the 'red mac stop light' in the right-hand corner...now it has the 'windows x'.... <_<

I have examined/opened MSN Core Files in Reshacker, but I can not find this dam 'Connection Text Bubble'...for my own personal welfare...lol...should I just accept this as is, and kiss my little 'red mac stop light' on the text bubble goodbye!?!

If I ever find it, where would I find the 'Red Mac stop light ' to replace it with? I have tried all versions of my Aqua & Brushed VS, and all pop-ups of text and apps, show the correct corresponding Mac colored stop light(s)...I would have thought that the MSN Explorer 8.5 'connection text bubble' would have been theme dependent...

#31619

Well, I finally was able to locate the Windows 'Red x' in custsat.dll, which was in MSN Core files...however this red x also is used in my MSN Messenger systray icon and MSN butterfly systray icon when the connection is stopped...

Strange how my systray 'connection icon'-Mac telephone receiver did not change but only the text bubble...Netshell.dll is what I tweaked from Iceman's Systray files...but netshell.dll can not be opened by Reshacker...

In conclusion...lol...it will be left like it is!

...but netshell.dll can not be opened by Reshacker...

are you kidding?

maybe you should try again...

#31764

Hey ieub,

Hmmm, you bring up a valid point...I made a copy of my tweaked netshell.dll and placed it on my desktop. Tried to open it, and got a Resource Hacker pop-up: Unable to read resource section

This is one of (3) Iceman's System DLL's (38 Files) 12.5 MB that converts the Windows Systray icons to Mac...

1. netshell.dll (Connection Icon)

2. stobject.dll (Volume Icon)

3. Nvmctray.dll (Display Icon only for Nvidia cards)

I am just wondering if my tweaked netshell.dll got somehow 'out of wack' by the MSN Explorer upgrade? The Mac systray icon for connection (black tele receiver & transmission status is fine)

I really don't want to re-download the 12.5 MB Tweaked DLL's just to be able to open the netshell.dll...if indeed this is where that MSN 'text bubble' is located...

If anyone has a Iceman tweaked netshell.dll (for SP1) that they could send to me please feel free to PM me...

:staffs here:

P.S. Man, I looked in my system for I know that I had D/L some of Flyakite's system files...I have his shell32.dll...dam! I see that his System DLL's is 7.7 MB...

#31843

Hmmm, very strange...yesterday Caroline @AquaXP was gracious enough to send me a netshell_xpsp2 .zip file just to try and see...

After replacing my original Iceman netshell.dll with it, my MSN 'text bubble' still remained with the new MSN 8.5 windows x...however today, I changed VS to KoL's iTunes1.5 and the MSN 'text bubble' was the correct Mac blue stoplight for iTunes B...I then tried Iceman's Jaguar Aqua VS, and the MSN 'text bubble' was the correct Mac red stoplight...Bare in mind that I always use TweakIU to clear my icon cache...

Then switched to KoL's Aqau 1.5 VS, and the MSN 'text bubble' returned to the default windows x...I even deleted the Aqua VS, and re-downloaded the Aqua theme...thinking myabe it somehow got messed up when I upgraded MSN 8 to 8.5...

Conclusion, after switching to the 'new' Aqua1.5 VS, clicked my MSN connection and the 'text bubble' still remained the default Windows x...clearing the icon cache about 5 times...

Fortunes of war...
