Is Windows a virus? :o

With the recent problems being encountered by Windows users all across the globe, people are begin to ask themselves if windows is a virus. In response to the high demand for an answer to that question a study was done and concluded the following.

1. Viruses replicate quickly. Windows does this.

2. Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so. Windows does this.

3. Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk. Windows does this.

4. Viruses are usually carried, unkown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Windows does that too.

5. Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. Same with Windows, yet again.

Maybe Windows really is a virus.

Nope! There is a difference!

Viruses are well supported by their authors, are frequently updated, and tend to become more sophisticated as they mature. So there! Windows is not a virus.

Last time I checked, there was no software either available for downlaod or purchase that came with a copy of Windows.

Also, viruses have malicous intent. I doubt that Microsoft sits all their eggheads down in a dark room and makes them come up with ways to make our systems slower by intent. That does happen with other companies now and then, though, and its called Corporate Suicide.

U know the process wdfmgr.exe ? I looked it up and apearantly its some part of windows media player 10

but every once in a while im surfing the net, and absolutly NO page will open. My connection is totally dead.

I go to the command prompy and check netstat and i see a whole bunch of connections to some microsoft

server, however ass soon as i kill the process wdfmgr.exe the connections disapear and my connection is as

fast as usual. Wierd eh ? SOme part of windows interacting with microsoft behind my back. Spyware ?

Thats a very well know fact that any PC is always connected to microsoft... just the question is wtf exactly are the monitoring... I highly doubt that its what they claim for it the be... "anonymous usage statistics" <- yeah right...

wdfmgr.exe is "Windows User Mode Driver Manager"

Service Name: UMWdf (Windows User Mode Driver Framework)

Description: Enables Windows user mode drivers.

Location: C:WINDOWSsystem32wdfmgr.exe 38.0 KB (38,912 bytes)

It's not spyware. In fact the code lacks the ability to access the internet.

Edit:

If you were experienceing issues, it was probably due to driver load failure.

And it is part of Windows, not Media player. Although media player could use it to load a codec.

And my firewall at home shows no connections or attempts to connect to M$ unless I actualy go there myself.

HAHA iFido! I think it's just a coincidence or there's something else going on. Windows is buggy, but not a virus. Last time I reformatted was because, I checked for viruses and spyware but there was none, yet my computer kept randomly freezing. I tried a bunch of stuff but nothing worked...anyways, maybe you have a similar situation.

Probably not a coincidence... as I stated before, it could have been a failed driver load that caused you problem.

wdfmgr.exe is a user mode driver loader... that's it. It's not an actual driver just a front end helper of sorts.

So if by killing the process, your problem went away, it has to be a driver related issue.

The "bad" driver probably got hung in memory and wouldn't allow the rest of your network drivers to finish loading.

I suggest going through your system logs right after this occurs and see if you can spot the offending item.

Windows is NOT a virus. Its a graphic adventure game nobody yet made into the second level. It's written in Basic.

You can save your game by shutting down. When you lose, you have to reformat.

If you are a power user, you'll have armoury -2, attack +2 and patience -1.

If you can program, you'll have all armoury +5, attack +2 and patience -7.

If you are a ****, you'll have everything at -10 and attention span -17.

Your high score is the size of your registry. Reading the bytes before the end of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive backwards give the encoded text of some heretical Rolling Stones song, depending on version.

Well Guys.... whatever it is, wherever this guy Facist found this thing..... what I don't understand is some real extreme remarks by some users... from what I know about the piece of text he (facist) posted about Windows Being a Virus is nuthing but some joke on Windows.... Now many of us use windows, modify it to look like mac, and take a great pleasure in bashing M$, windows, Bill Gates and everything else related to it, and we all update our version of windows as it releases, allowing ourselves to have another chance to bash it.

That's life, we all (MAC users not included) use windows, hate windows, updates windows and hate windows. so let's just take it as fun and leave it, and find something more to have a good laugh. isn't that simple???
