[help] PDF icon

Well I've had this problem for a while now.. and I've sort of just tried to ignore it. But it's starting to bug me.

Does anyone know how to change the icon for PDF files that are associated with Acrobat Reader?

I can change pretty much all other icons, but for some reason the PDF ones just don't wanna change :slant:

Adobe changes all their icons back upon each restart of their program--I haven't found a fix yet, though I imagine you could *try* "hacking" the program if you want.

It would be hard, yes. Possibly even...deadly. Do YOU have what it takes? ;)

Heh heh.. yea I kinda took that approach. I replaced the default PDF document file in the executable and in one of the dll's (one of the important-looking ones) but to no avail..

Try...

C:WINDOWS (or WINNT)Installer

Find the folder for Acrobat.

Replace the icon in there.

ok... in Run > Control Folders > [this will open Folder Options] > File Types Tab > Locate "PDF" here and change it's icon!!

Simple!!

Shekhar, that's what I was referring to--it doesn't work. Nice suggestion though ;).

Relativity, I've never tried your idea--has it worked for you or taijutsushinobi?

Yea Relativity's method sounded really hopeful, but it doesn't work. After I replaced the icon I did a restart and realized that the icon in the folder was reset back to the way it was...

That's odd... I've never had problems with replacing those files before...

I never needed a restart either. Just emptied the Iconcache and all PDF icons changed to the new one. I only changed the PDFfile.ico, just dragging the new icon into the folder (same name as old version) and overwriting it...
