ok, ive been back and forth with dell tech support for days, and they are really trying, but i wanted to get some words from here if anyone has any idea. here's the deal:
Dell Inspirion 8200, came with XP Home, nuked it and went to linux...nuked it went to Win98. upgraded to Win2000 and all was cool. but i wanted to use this "Remote Desktop Connection" app (for OS X, of course) that i found, but it wouldnt work with 2000. it suggested XP Pro, so i *found* an XP Pro disc and installed. actually was the smoothest windows installation ever. but HERE is the problem, the NIC doesnt work!! device manager says "windows is unable to load the drivers." i downloaded the newest drivers from dell's website, and of course it doesnt work. it's a 3Com 3C920 (905C-TX compatible) NIC and i'm running XP Pro (SP1 is not installed).
is it possible the card isnt XP Pro compatible, and just XP Home compatible? it seems like a retarded idea, but ive heard worse. or did the card just crap out on me when i upgraded? (the laptop is about 10 months old....err, young
)
any ideas? if you need anymore details, let me know
