installing Mac OS on unsupported Machines

To install Mac OS X on unsupported systems:

1. Create 3 disk partitions... you might need a bigger HD especially because you are installing tiger.

1.1 partition 1: Name: Mac OS X

partition 2: Name: Temp Boot

partition 3: Name: Mac OS X Install DVD

Note: You will be installing to the Mac OS X drive!!!!

2. Create a boot CD using BootCD 0.6.4. Don't burn it yet.

2.1 - Make sure to include Disk Utility and The installer

2.2 - Open the ISO made from

2.3 - in the finder go to "System/Library/CoreServices/"

2.3.1 - Open "Systemversion.plist" in Text edit

2.3.1.1 - Replace all instances of 10.3 to 10.4.

2.4 - Open disk Utility and write the image to Temp Boot.

2.5 - Restart and boot from the temp boot partition

3. Write the image of the tiger DVD to "Mac OS X Install DVD" to the respective partition.

3.1 - Open the "BasePackage.pkg" in "/System/Installation/Packages/"

3.2 - Reboot as the installer says...

3.2.1 - Boot from a disc to allow you to set the Boot drive to the Temp Boot partition.

3.3 - Open the "Essentials.pkg" in the same folder. Install it...

3.4 - Reboot if needed and follow 3.2.1 again.

3.5 - Open "AdditionalEssentials.pkg" in the same folder again.

4. You should be able to boot into Tiger by now...

You can run the "Optional installs.mpkg" in the DVD's root folder.

NOTE: I am still trying to work everything out of Tiger... I got to boot into it and it runs pretty well. I can launch dashboard with all the FX. Spotlight wont come up so far but I am working on it. I am installing XCode 2.0 at the time of this writing. I will be posting this tutorial when I get on a school computer.

NOTE 2: I Have to launch the dock manually and create manually, there is no after install wizard to walk you through it. To launch the dock go to "/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app" you also should see a slew of applications of helpfulness here!.

Note 3: Sorry the shut down, log out, and restart on the Apple menu won’t work so far... You’ll have to unplug manually

If you are trying to install Tiger under PearPC, you must use the G3 CPU setting.

The G4 Altivec emulation is not up to par yet as causes graphical display issues with Spotlight and a few other programs.

also, tiger does not install correctly on pearpc. If you read their tutorial for installing tiger, it says to install panther first then upgrade.

While it may be considered the same as the release version, it has a different build number.

Update 10.4.1 will not install with this build number.

You need to edit the SystemVersion.plist info and change the build number to 8B15 and version number to 10.4.1.

The run the 10.4.1 update again, it will then think it's being re-installed.

Sorry to be so vague...

This tutorial is for installing Mac OS X 10.4 on unsuported REAL hardware... It has been known to work with 10.4 on an iMac 333 and Tiger Server on an iMac 350

Isnt this inherently saying that whoever needs to do this is running a pirated copy of the os? - if you had the GM version legally, you should have the retail version already.
