OS X Screensaver effects...

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows how to emulate that beautiful screensaver os x has. While using an imac in my school I noticed how the screensaver nicely faded in on start and when you moved the mouse the screensaver fades out back to the desktop. I have been looking around for some screensaver programs that do this but I couldn't find much. Has anyone else seen anything? :)

While we're on the subject... is there a Windows equivalent screen saver of "Flare"? I think that's what it's called anyway. It's the one that has a brightly glowing light ball that moves around the screen with multi-colored streams of light coming off of it... it's pretty cool.

Ya, there are a lot of cool screensavers that the mac osx has that seem like windows couldnt do them for some reason. The osx screensavers have a 3-dimensional look to them that I have not seen in any windows screensavers before. They are much prettier also. If anyone has any reference to anything on this topic please let us know.

I would like to know how mac does their savers. I bet they use a completely different method, other than windows. That is why they can get those kind of effects. Oh and to anyone who has never used the real mac osx you wouldn't know what we're talking about. You have to see it to believe it! ;)

The screensavers you're talking about are probably OpenGL screensavers...

The one I was talking about is an OpenGL one... I figure it could somehow be ported to Windows because of this fact. I haven't been able to find a port though.

If you go to the apple website you can download some mac screensavers. Although they are in a weird file extension. I have tried to download a few. I dont know if you can somehow come up with something to run these files. Hmmmmm.

Hi all,

You may want to head over to http://www.reallyslick.com/

There, is a collection of 10+ OpenGL screensavers. All of them very nice.

Also, they are configurable. So Im sure with a little tweaking one could, if one liked, make a very close approximation of Flare

Peace,

THIS THING IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

THANKS A LOT Grusic!!

I've seen those before while looking for exactly what we're looking for here... unfortunately my video card blows and can't run them smoothly. Oh well I guess that means it wouldn't be able to run Flare or whatever it's called smoothly either.

Good thing I'm getting an iBook for Christmas :) Then I can let the screen saver run all day next to me.

Fantastic!!

Thank you man. ;)

These are really great, thanks a lot.

Ricky buddy, try changing the render rez to 800x600 16/32 bit at 140hz.

IT will run perfect for you, in whatever card you have.

try it :)

Heh nope. My video card only supports up to 85Hz and even on 640x480 it's still choppy.

#2677

Wow, thanks a lot dude. This is just what we've been looking for. How do you come across this stuff?? :o Anyways thanks again, if you have anything else that you somehow came across and you would like to share with us, please do! :D

Actually, there is still one more thing that I would really like to have. I need that fade in and fade out on the screensavers. I so wish I had that. Oh well, I guess I will just have to program it myself. (not that I know what Im doing) ;)

You're welcome all,

I always have my eye out for nice OpenGL screen savers.

I found that site one day by just doing a Google on "OpenGL screen savers". There are quite a few sites like it as well.

I too, am looking for a screensaver with zoom, fade in, fade out. It can't be that hard to do really. If my programming chops were sharp still, I use to program for 18 years, I'd do it myself. But right now I'm not not inclined to do so.

Peace,

Grusic

o man! those are some nice screensavers! Never imagined screensavers could have good quality :P

By the way, anybody have good-quality visualizations?

#2780

Super!!!!!!!!

#2787

Ya I am looking for a fade in/out screensaver. Want one badly! But maybe if you can scrap up those sharp skills somewhere you maybe, just maybe, program one yourself! ^_^ Please! For the accuracy of Mac OS X!!!!! Well if you dont feel like it, please let us know when you do find a way! Thanks!

Hey Grusic, have you found anything good on the fade in/out effects? Nothin here yet. If anyone find anything please post here. :D

#3109

No, I have not found one yet that does zoom, fade in/fade out.

I found a few that did all sort of transitions but nothing like the OS X screen saver.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time though.

#3112

Dang... Ya I will keep looking also.
