Best dual processor mobo for 64 bit cpus

Hey guys,

Do you know of a good dual processor mobo that will support two 64 bit processors ?

Also, what are the fastest processors i could use here. I want HT all

the fancy gizmos and as many Ghz as possible :P

Any recommendations ?

P.S.

Its also gotta be overclockable.

well... why not wait for Dual-Core processors....

That is two physical processors on the single die, so you won't need to hunt for Dual Processor MoBo.

besides Intel and AMD both are launching DualCore 64 Bit Processors (I think it's already there, but not sure), and Intel Dual Core have HT enabled on both the cores, so that means you get 4 processor threads on the same.. both AMD and Intel had now support for 1Gz FSB... I guess Asus and MSI both have launched MoBo's for latest processors.

Besides, both Asus and MSI MoBo's have pretty much overclockin facilities.

Google it.. shouldn't be hard.

I wouldn't count so much on dual core cpu until the software (os and applications) fully supports it. Also there is a probability that dual core processors will not be available in large quantities from the beginning.

And considering the price of a dual core cpu - between 1500 and 2600 euro, that should chill you a bit. :slant:

The dual cores arnt any diffrent from two physical cores technicaly (besides the fact that the AMDs share a single HT bus isntead of two busses like two physical CPUs do, but it has a very small impact on preformance). If the software benifits from having two physiical CPUs it will benifit from a dual core. Its not like intels pathetical excuse of 2 logical CPUs called 'hyper threading'. And the dual cores are much cheaper then 2 physical cpus of the same speed, not to meantion the motherbaords are cheaper and dont require regesterd memory. You can also get a standard 939 motherboard and get all the toys like dual PCIe cards, and the benifits of the NF4 chip. Dual core athlon 64s should be avalable in decent qualities, but I doubt dual core intels will just cause of there cost.

And usualy people who realy need a dual system know what motherboard to get. If you dont you dont need a dual system.... Expecialy if you want HT lots of MHZ!!!111!!!1! and all dem fancay gizmos....

And if you want sugestions you have to at the very minumum tell us weither or not its going to be AMD or intel....

I actually dont really care which brand, whichever is faster (I dont know yet :P)

I want to build a PC with two CPUs that are say 3.8 Ghz (Im not sure there are

any 64 bit cpus that fast, i really hope so) so that i would have 7.6 Ghz in total.

If i overclocked them a little bit i could get 8 ghz. Then a few gigs or ram, some

1 TB toshiba Hard drives (those might not be out yet but theyr coming soon) and

Id also like to do one of those things where you have two GPUS and they both

work together (I know some barebones and maybe alienware do this). WHen I get

thats done I have a whole bunch of aesthetical mods in mind. Heres a short list of

a few of the parts :-)

wow man! it's like you're building a super computre :o

now as for the processor you are making a great mistake by assuming that the horsepower is scaled by how many Ghz 's it has....look at AMD for example beating intel processors @3.5 GHz with only 2Ghz ones....i guess you should buy a dual core AMD at highest speed with socket 939 and a Diamod gigabyte Nvidia motherboard:cool:

as for the two Gpu thingy....that's actually called Sli technology (see Nvidia website fore more info)

and if you want the highest grafic pergormance on eath you can get two Geforce6800 Ultra 512 DDR3....i'm sure it's out but each will cost 1000$ i think:confused:

if you need any further assistance on technicalities just say the word;)

There is SLI for using two separate PCI-X cards as single graphic processing unit, and then there is one card from Gigabyte which has two GPUs bolted on single unit itself, a true dual GPU card. I dunno the model number but I had read the review recently, and it seemed to beat the SLI solution of the same class GPUs by fair margin.

Google or check Gigabyte site, you might find it.... as far as I remember it used GeForce 6 class GPU.

... and oh... by the way, even Intel has admitted it that... Gone are the days, where we use to merit a CPU by it's Clock Speed power... now GHz to GHz comparision doesn't work.

#282735

ok thanks :) so forget the ghz, what are the fastest cpus i could use in a dual cpu

mobo? Id really like them to be 64 bit, i think its high time to make the switch.

#283042

For the bang of the buck go for AMD Opteron. The Intel Xeon are bit pricier.

#283099

Souds like you have plenty of cash, why not get a dual G5? It's 64bit, wiht an OS that actually takes full advantage of that, all liquid cooled in the top model i think, you can get a couple of 400GB hardrives already, plus the sweet bluetooth keyboard, and with the tricked out Nvidia graphics card (6800 or summint i cant remember), i think you'll be fine! Hey, if it isn't stylish enough for you (though my personal opinion is that they couldnt have done it much better), you could always mod the case a bit, like i see you did to that G3, which i have to conceed looks good ;)

#283129

Naw i dont have any cash but i plan on making some in the near future :P And i wouldnt want a G5 cause

as beautifull a masterpiece as they are u simply cant mess around with it like with a PC. I want something

you can overclock and benchmark and fry 8) Maybe i should get someone to sponsor building this monster ?

:P

64bit cpus are just hitting the water. XP 64bit edition came out but it still has a long way to go. As far as having dual processors, I don't know if it would be benficial for you unless the applications you use takes advantage of the dual procs.

It doesn't double ur processor range. 2x 4ghz cpus wont equal 8ghz. It will just be a 4ghz cpu and instead of 1 cpu working on grinding the arithmitic problems it's split into 2.

I suggest to wait and see benchmarks and etc compared to single-die systems.

#283639

Im thinking about getting a quad CPU xeon.... 8-)

#283711

But think about how much those four CPUs would cost...

What is wrong with your Mac Mini?

#286555

That new Abit Fatal1ty looks sweet.

I like Epox boards though.

#287105

Ok this is getting to complicated. Let me put it this way, whats the fastest regular home PC in the world

right now, what parts does it use, and what parts should I use to make a faster one ? 8-)

#287230

There's a price:performance ratio. This ratio is about a normal distribution curve. Ideally you want to be about 75% up the curve. Hence you don't want to get the best of the best; it will be wasted because by the time software catches up to that level of hardware, the hardware is obselete anyways.

That's why Dual CPUs in home computers just aren't as worth it. The most demanding things you can do with your computer is encoding video streams and playing games. Most games don't harness dual CPUs at all (Doom3 being a major exception) and it's not like encoding video streams is a very interactive process anyways, most likely you start it and you wander off.

My recommendation, get all this off of newegg.

Athlon 64 FX55 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103496

EPoX mobo with nForce4 SLI chipset http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813123246

2 of these: GeForce 6800Ultras with SLI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814125172

2 of these: 2x1024MB Corsair XMS memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145503

That's the most expensive system you can get without going into custom equipment.

Give it a good PSU.
