[Question] icons, window placement, start menu -- WTF is wrong with Windows?

I like Windows, I really do. But sometimes the extent to which Windows is poorly designed just baffles me.

Question 1 -- icons and file types:

Why is it that I can't have Windows distinguish between .mp3 files, .wav files, .midi files, etc? If I tell Windows to play a sound file in Winamp, it lumps all of those file associations together. So right now it's impossible to have a midi filetype with a midi icon because then every other sound file gets changed to a "midi file" with a midi icon.

It just doesn't make sense!

That aside, is there a solution? I just don't understand, I mean, it's so OBVIOUS... in my head, I just can't rationalize why it would be like that.

Question 2 -- WindowFX

So it seems that WindowFX's maximize-to-size function doesn't work with Windowblinds 4.5.1. Any ideas why? When it's enabled, Windows maximize to ~ the size I tell them to, and start out at a generally random location, usually near the top of my screen where I have my taskbar, just to be annoying.

Question 3 -- Start Menu

Are icons in the start menu not able to be transparent? If so, why not? If they can be, any idea how?

Thanks for any help anyone might be able to offer.

Edit:

Btw, I know that it's WindowBlinds that is interfering with WindowFX's maximize-to-size function, because it works fine when I turn WindowBlinds off.

Edit 2:

Responses from people older than 3 appreciated.

Seems like a problem with one of the applications taking over all filetypes.

Hm. Okay. It was pretty random and not particularly creative... not so much "ha ha" funny as much as "eh... who are you and why are you talking to me?" funny.

Anyway, you have quite the taste for sophisticated humor, so, uh... have fun with that.

Ah, I should have clarified -- I'm using the classic start menu. And on mine, the Programs, Settings, Search, Run, Log Off and Turn off Computer icons all have grey backgrounds where they ought to be transparent.
