Apple hits Intel-based processors?

I was checking out Paul Thurrott's WinHEC 2005 blog and there is a mention, near the bottom of his article (before comments, so still pretty high on the page) about Apple switching to Intel-based processors this year.

This one's bizarre, but we heard at lunch today that Apple is unhappy with the PowerPC production at IBM and will be switching to Intel-compatible chips this very year. Yeah, seriously

What do you guys think? Someone pulling ol' Thurrott's leg? Speculation? Or actually possible?

I don't know - I heard something similar about a year, maybe two ago?!? It was rumour back then but don't know if this is just another?

sounds like he's sarcastic. i missed the efficent g4s. if they make their own cpu again that is just as efficent as g4 and fast like 2.7 ghz it will be even better. ibm's cpu's aren't my favorite. i doubt they are going with intel that's what i mean.

i mean, they are apple's greatest cpu rivels.

I doubt they will use x86 archetecutre even if intel does make the chips.

i think Paul just needs more advertising money
