StartSomethingPC - Another Microsoft Sham

I'll first take an excert from their 'Terms and Conditions' page (http://www.startsomethingpc.com/TermsOfUse.aspx)

By entering, each entrant grants to Microsoft (including its affiliates, employees, agents, and contractors), IDSA and the Competition Judges an irrevocable, royalty free, fully paid up, worldwide license to use, review, assess, test and otherwise analyze the Application and all its content in connection with this Competition. Microsoft shall be free to use for any purpose the residuals resulting from access to or work with the Entrants’ Applications.

Beware all you talented Graphic Designers, for even if you do not win, your work is subject to their rule. Given the recent attacks from MS' shiesters, your work, from your website, could become theirs. I'm usually not very negative about Microsoft, but this is rediculous.

This is the same kind of clause that is active in most design contests. I can tell you that because my Fiancee is an Industrial Designer and has participated in quite a lot all over the world - same thing

#276756

 Thats really a bum deal for the designers, in any contest. I'm not really 'in the know' when it comes to graphic design contests, but I've read my fair share of TOCs.

Thanks for the heads up Seph... but it still aint fair methinks.

#276757

Yup, i dont think its fair either - those they dont choose will get archived for "idea thinkbox"; kinda convenient for the "thinkers" in the design departments, dont you think :slant:

my entry will be a sealed box with an eula inside stating that when they (microsoft representatives) open the box, they have agreed to eula.

The eula will state that all microsoft pr reps have to appear in a 2 minute ad during the next superbowl.

The ad will consist of the pr reps with large dildos inserted in their mouths, writing microsoft slogans on a chalkboard.

Failure to comply will result in full microsoft assets being compressed into a single, high density, shipping container and sailed around the world on a luxury cruise liner for 2 years. After 2 years, the shipping container will be scuttled to encourage sealife rehabilition in the bikini atoll, a past site of US nuclear tests.

//tinkles five feet to the left, catches Castro's kiss, feeds it to pet dog Scruffy for safekeeping.

Castro's got such a lame beard for a dictator... If he was a right wing dictator he'd be using the Rogaine YOU KNOW IT! :o

(i hope this OT isn't p'ing andrew off)

#276797

He should dress fancier, he looks like he's a army guy thingie.

#276799

this = cheap labor

#276835

they do these things so that they could copy the design of the most talented people out there... after that they hire them lol

#276923

i think microsoft is just plain desperate for new ideas, LOL

#276940

nice try bill :/

#276965

"Welcome to the Competition! If you're here, the site probably piqued your curiosity. Or maybe it was the big prize dollars that convinced you to take a look. Whatever the reason, we're excited you're here. "

LOL

"While we think Longhorn is ultra-cool,"

#277009

Funny.

Show me decently rewarded design contest that ~dont~ keep the "ideas" as part of their property.

#277030

They don't have enough money to pay their own designers... or maybe they are too greed to pay their own designers...

A couple of hundred thousand dollars for a brand new interface it's nothing... Who Bill Gates takes us for? For idiots?

The point is that they know that by making such a competition, they can end with a decent interface and it's sad their way of thinking.

Linux would need such a thing, people working for free, not one of the wealthiest companies in the world...

its just as I said, cheap labor...
