[help] setup iPod photo 60G as an external HD

hello everyone

I just bought an iPod photo 60G last week, and I've heard that you can setup your ipod photo as an external HD.

But when I follow the instruction from apple.com, I should check the option says enable disk use, but when I tried to do this, it wouldn't let me do it.

here is my screenshot, http://tinypic.com/4lq2he

I am using windows XP Pro SP2

and I just restore my iPod to defualt setting, but I still cant handle this problem.

someone please help me!!

Thanks in advance.

i wouldn`t do that if i was you.

it will pretty soon burn up.

iPod's HD is NOT a heavy duty desktop/laptop HD. It`s a 1.8" HD for light use, not as an external.

but it's up to you.

In any case, the "Enable disk use" option is not editable, but it is checked.

The same thing happens with my iPod shuffle, and it works well... whenever I plug it in, it appears as another hard drive in My Computer.

mine works with both a suffle and a generation 4 15gb Ipod. I am fully able to use it as an HD and I am able to edit how much space i want to let it use. BTW, the ipod harddrive is a good HD for external use...although it gets hot, it spins at a good 4200 rpm

wow i never new 4Gs had 15GB models ;)

anyways you can even partition your ipod if you don't want all that ipod photos, music, notes, contacts etc... junk

personally I wouldn't use mine as an external HD, as Unbe has pointed out, the iPods aren't built for intensive usage. Go get a real external HD, I just got a Maxtor One touch II 100GB for $170, they're not expensive nowadays ;)

the fact that is CAN act as one doesn't mean it should ;)
