Apple Panther Looks Like Smoothstripes?

Whoever said panthers gonna be glossy and smooth,.. can we have some screenshots?

#24355

Yes, this is something I'd like to see for myself...

#24357

i would as well

#24359

Hmm, well some people have stated the screenshots on apple.com are using smooth stripes... so maybe apple finally dropped the pin stripe? also could it be all in brushed since that seems to be apples new fling...

#24360

I fourth that.

Damnit fifth!

#24361

I hope not.

All their monitors and their symbols are on stripes.

Dudes, smooth stripes is a nice theme, but you must realize that its kinda like having a 'plain' background, 'empty'..

perhaps ill be convinced otherwise.

#24394

ummm... well that's not what the apple-x.net 'exclusive panther screenshots' show. i could be wrong, though.

from a friend of a dev @ Apple:

you all probably know me, im a frequent poster. ive talked about before under different names that one of my friends is part of an apple development team. he has at his house an early version of pather to run and test, and this weekend i got to take a look at it. let me tell you it is amazing. the most noticible change is the appearence. its not much of a change, but everything looks different. it uses some sort of 'smart color scheming' where windows, finders, and even some of the iapps seem to work right out of the scenery. ie the desktop, color shcemes, what have you. its amazing. the applications literally come out of the wood work. i didnt get to see a whole lot of other thigns...he didnt want to show me too much. there are alot more animated effects, windows now are animated as well, not to the effect of the new longhorn videos, but on the same track. a few other neat features as well. the dock is souped up and looks awesome. be very happy people...apple is packing a blow with this one. trust me.  fear nothing from M$, im confident after seeing this new OS for only 5-1 minutes.  it did run a little slow however, but he said its because its just an early version and there are more stable and faster revisions in the works.

There is also mention of a more powerful and animated dock. Also, animated windows, like in Longhorn :P..

Also, the buttons are flatter (new iTunes style).

And possibly tabs in the Finder..

and possibly better iChat..

and...

awesome!

is it going to cost $ to upgrade, or will it be free, or will it be "free"...? lol

#26409

$$$

$120 :(

most prolly, that is.

#26416

Piracy my friend. ;):lol::P Piracy....

When I'm 18, I can become an apple developer for $99.

#26448

what's the 99 dollars for if you're going to pirate everything?

and why when you're 18?

#26449

About apple going smooth stripes. Apple has talked about on their site how the pin stripes in OSX give the window texture and are a benefit over other OS' and how they have flat color in their dialog windows in their default themes.

Firstly I'm not sixteen yet, and Apple only approves college student developers. And Piracy... was just a suggestion, someone probably already leaked panther to p2p programs. However I am getting the feeling that apple is becoming tight as a drum. ;)

#26453

you go to college when you're 16? here in the states, we go when we're 18 (although I'll be 17), because im young for my age... lol

#26455

you go to college when you're 16?

I live in New York City, I believe that's part of the U.S. My sixteenth birthday is next week, that's why i mentioned that. I should have rephrased that, it does sound like the college going age is 16.

#26457

lol, sorry, thought you were the one who lived in like brazil or somewhere in south america...

#26465

Nope, i'm the one from Brazil :P . And i don't think that a SS theme for default would be a bad thing. It will make Aqua emulation a lot easier...
