Microsoft is up to something...

Don't know whether to put this in the hardware or software section, too vague. What could it be?

Start Something PC

IDSA makes hardware, so some new PC maybe?

And I'm not to happy about the obvious spotlight usage in the design... they wouldn't let something through like that on purpose so soon before the release of Tiger.

That background looks alot like the one with teh Tiger X, just without the X...

Microsoft are going to buy apple!!!!

NNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That video really keeps you wondering...

#275838

im thinking a windows computer that crashes only HALF the number of times it usually does.

#275839

oh so creepy...microsoft having some style...something is wrong here... all microsoft does is make software that is ugly lacks style...it may be functional, but style is where microsoft falls flat on its face.

#275840

Indeed, but I don't think Microsoft is good as functionality either, they just do a good job on being user friendly, at the cost of functionality. Kind of like equlivent trade, except without alchemy.

But then that means that Apple has the philospher stonet to bypass the laws of equilvent trade!

Nevermind..

#275843

^^ Full Metal Alchemist huh?? hehe...

anyway, it think its longhorn?? oops nvm.. LOL

#275845

full metal alchemist...not a bad show lol

#275850

It says "something inspired".... wonder what couldn've inspired them?

Btw FMA is the best anime ever...

#275853

Apple inspired them to make a real operating system

#275867

their interfae is over 20 years old. the start menu, and everything. i like FMA. although dark, it is has good philosophy. microsoft must have been up to something again. the video looks like tiger, microsoft copieng apple stuff as always. bah.

#275872

Who's IDSA? Advertising guys?

What ever it is, it seems good... just a few days to wait...

FMA? best anime ever? watch ghost in the shell... or Evangelion.... maybe Serial Experiments Lain...

(ok... just how many persons watch anime in this forum? AHAHAHAHA... ok)

#275873

Who knows... bookmarked the page.

Will check back in a few days and see what it's all about.

BTW... the current interface is only 11 years old.

Start menu came out in november of 94 in the beta release of Chicago (Windows 95)

I still have one of the CD's... turned it into a clock... works better that way. :-)

If you want to talk about an old interface, Apple has essentialy used the same layout since day 1.

While the graphics and underlying functionality have changed, the basic premise of Apples interface layout has not really changed at all.

Remember when Windows was actualy nothing but a bunch of well... windows?

Then M$ copied System 7's layout but placed the task/startbar at the bottom of the screen.

I still remember the Rolling Stones ads for Windows 95 and the whole "start me up" thing.

Really stupid, but it sold software.

#275876

that was a nice little teaser, the date is only 3 days away, so atleast we wont have to wait too long to see what its about.

#275879

Apple didn't use the same interface since day 1. It changed in OS X.

It was the close button on one side and the otehr two on the other. Now it's all on one side and That button that makes the window smaller on the other...

#275918

Maybe a beta of Internet Explorer 7 (they decided to release it before Longhorn...)

True. OS X gave Aqua, the close, min, max widgets on the topleft of a Window.

It also replaced the control strip with the characteristic Dock.

But the Finderbar(aka Taskbar) on top with apple logo on the topleft

& active menu on that Finderbar instead of on each open window have been on Apple's OS

since System 1.1 up till the current OS X.3 Panther and will fortunately stay that way on the forthcoming OS X.4 Tiger.

Also, the cursor has always been Black with white edge in contradiction to M$ Windows' White pointer with black Edge. Think Different, eh? See Good vs Evil posters

According to a german News Page ( http://www.tecchannel.de/news/betriebssystem/20461/ ) it is just going to be a start for a Windows XP promotion in several Countrys. Also it is the date where Developers will probably get their hands on the Longhorn beta. I was really hoping for more than just advertising :)

#275957

Note that I said "Apple has essentialy used the same layout since day 1"

Emphasis on the word essentialy... yes there have be very minor tweaks to some control locations, but it's been pretty much the same general design since forever.

Back to the topic at hand... All my friends at M$ are being very tight lipped about this and won't spill the beans.

The Longhorn Beta isn't scheduled for release until sometime in May.

I do know that M$ is planning on releasing IE 7 before the release of Longhorn so it's a possibility.

#275969

maybe its just ie with a suped-up search bar.. woohoo

#275973

I just can't wait to see it :).

Perhaps it's a 4-day advance release of Tiger! That would make sense...

P.S: Sorry about the Microsoft-bashing ;).
