help in buying 17 inch monitor.

hello. i'm trying to find a good cheap worthwhile 17 inch monitor that's under 250 $ US.

can anybody help me?

i have been using a samsung syncmaster 152s 15 inch and i'm trying to get a bigger monitor, but because of my tight budget i'm unable to do so.

i have seen some companies like foxconn and LG. are they good? also, what other companies have good performance for it's price range?

and have been very hapy with it for the price. Its not the sexiest monitor ive ever seen but it doesnt look bad and does everything I expect it to wthout problems.

my neighbour has a ProLite E435S-W by iiyama, and its really good. i think he paid like 270 for it, but im not sure if you can get it for that price regularly......

i have a benq fp931, it's a 19" but it's down to like 330 on newegg. i couldn't be happier with this monitor, no dead pixels, 16ms response time, no ghosting, i love it...

I got BenQ FP797-12, 17" and price about +/- Euro 270 now i think, not really sure because I bought it early this year when the price 320 euro. The screen smooth and clear. Very happy with it

I only know that response time is one of the obstacles. :confused:

Depends on the technology used.

Older flat panels were LCD and had horrible refresh rates... modern flat Panels are TFT (Thin Film Transistor) and are extremely crisp.

Modern flat panels have no issue with response times for your average game.

The really high end flat panels are perfect.

I've played Doom 3 on a 17" Samsung (can't remember model, but it wasn't cheap) and didn't have any issue with the display at all.

if you look at the Iiyama ProLite E435S-W, you will notice it has 9 or 10ms reaction time, which is like the best flat panel you can find for that......

for games, 16 is fine, but cutting it close. you do not want to go higher than that or you'll see constant ghosting with thinks like smoke and fire
