yup.. just confirmed, I can't re-partition a logic drive.
Any other way out, or is it a kiss goodbye to Linux? 
where can i see pics of different linuxes? i'm thinking of doing dual boot for a while!
i just wana see pics of different parts of the system, don't care bout GUI for now
What kind of pictures do you want to see?
You can resize a logical partition. Could you tell us what the exact error is?
i'm sure you can resize a logical drive within an extended partition because you can have more than one logical drive?
i've looked through mandrake's and slackware's screens, and i want to see pics of the control panel's dialogs--i saw that mandrake has something like that....(like system properties)
will linux run faster on my 900mHz Duron, 384MB ram PC than XP?
oh, and also (my most important question) WHICH LINUX DISTRO RUNS FASTEST?
once i know that the best features of windows are in linux, i'll switch!

What best features?
If your happy w/ Windows, please dont switch. Linux is for people who are willing to devote a lot of time getting their system running right. In return, you recieve a fully customized and open system. If you don't enjoy fixing problems, or you want Windows' ease of use, Linux is not for you.
yea.. if you expect everything to be done by GUI or a control panel.. its not for you.... by default theres no such thing as a control panel to linux... maybe a control panel to the Desktop environment.. but thats it.. unless the distributor made one like mandrake's control panel...
its alot more work then windows.

thanks to you guys I finished installing Mandrake on my PC and Mac. 
However, its in VPC since I'm having problems with making a logic partition in an already logic-partitioned drive..
Anyway, I tried KDE and Gnome, and I have to agree with y'all that said that Gnome is waayy better.
Some of the things I liked are: the Linux 'feel' , a new environment, the stability - duh!
But I am having one problem. I can't seem to change my resolution. I tried alt+ctrl+F2, but it didn't do what I wanted. Anyone know what I should do??
you will have to edit your Xfree86-4 config file.. usualy located in the /etc directory... but i warn you... if you make a type or one little mistake... your X server wont work..
theres spot in there for available resolutions you can set.. you have to be root to edit them and then once edited ans asaved reestart the X GUI server.. that was just a quicky.. also usualy
um i forget the command but its like CTrl + or Ctrl - (use the Keypads) to go up or down in resolution.. i forget exactly.....also dont bother changing resolution in Virtual PC.. it wont work out right.. i think its at 800x600 and thats best you can do... VPC is very very limited
-also for your patitions.. have you tried partition magic to make your patitions?

This is the usual location of the file: /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4) , for me, theres no -4, but lately, most people have that. Keep in mind this is case sensitive (as is everything in linux 
)
You can edit it in PICO, so in the console (as SU) type in : pico /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4)
It will be a big config file, but its well documented in it, and its very readable. You should find a section with:
"800x600" "1024x768" .....
This will be for each color depth (4,16,24), This is the default resolution order, so change them to whatever order you want. The "" are needed.
You can edit this in Kwrite, gedit or anything really if you want. But keep PICO in mind, because if you mess your xf86config file up, you will have to edit it in the console to fix it (which you see isnt that hard).
You should also backup your origional file. Just open it, and save it as xf86configbackup , or something like that. Then edit it, and save it as xf86config(-4)
Or if you want to completly set up the xf86config file step by step, in a command line (as SU), type in: xf86config (no caps), and it will take you step by step.

anyways since you are in VPC i dont think you will be able to go to a higher resolution.. i tried and it messed VPC up... its just how VPC is made i supose....

yup, I tried Partition Magic, and the error I get is that I can't re-partiton an already partitoned drive that has 3 LOGIC partitions (whew... so many 'partitions'!). It says there are 0MB available for the new partition, hence it does not create it..
huh so you cant resize any of those logical partitions to make room for another partition?

nope. It just doesn't do it. It just says I cant...

LOL.. I bet I'm a terrible bore 
Anyway, like I said I have 5 family members using the PC. We had 3 hard drives. One messed up, we had to back the stuff up. Then we created partitions for each family member. Then we made sub-partitions, and now there are partitions everywhere.. ARGHH!!
