Msn 8

I'm trying MSN 8 again and I must admit that it's looking great and works well.

Some of my experiences (running through DSL)...

1. The search function rivals google's speed: I was amazed it's fast!

2. Nice animations within hotmail. I love the flying, sending mail envelope animation.

3. Icon bar smoothly transitions from icon to text as you resize the icon bar.

4. The dashboard is very functional and can conveniently be hidden and resized. This is a great preview of Longhorn's dashboard!

5. Discovered a parental control setting ;)

Some problems...

1. Memory hog (right now it's at 65MB) and Task Manager identifies it as MSN6.

2. I had to sign up to be able to test MSN8

I'm a Mac fan but I didn't realize MSN8 has grown up this much. Overall, I'm impressed. I'll be using this exclusively for a week and see what'll happen :)

oh, you mean MSN Explorer? How were the features? Would you recommend it over Safari ;)?

#24145

MSN Explorer is the old name of MSN 8.

But for OS X, NOTHING beats Safari of course! :)

Microsoft (shiver)

Try AOL, all the Linux Gurus recommend it.

Doesn't that butterfly get in the way? He looks spooky!

I shiver too, contrasutra.

MSN 8 is a pay service by the way. That's what I meant when I said you have to "sign up" in my first post. Two months free but after that it's $9.95/month.

*shiver* definitely not for everyone. Sad.

So wait, you have dsl AND msn? I thought MSN was a dialup ISP (for $23.90 a month, rip off!) Can I ask why? Any of those "features" are available for free in other places.

MSN 8 is already offered as independent from Microsoft's broadband or dialup access. That allowed me to try out the MSN 8 browser. So, I'm still using my DSL account with the addition of MSN 8.

The best deal (which is still expensive) is to get Microsoft's broadband access because the MSN 8 browser comes with the package.

All expenses aside, the MSN 8 browser is a great full-featured application.

@ fireball, I use it too...in fact I just received my Beta MSN 8.5 Explorer CD, it's pretty much the same GUI, except that the email program is even faster...

Now that I have my IE 6.1 browser hacked to emulate Safari via Makki's great Safari Mod files...Thanks man!!!

I now have a neat pair of contrasting browsers, that both perform well, and are very reliable... B)

ugh! microsoft trash.... soon we'll be renting windows off them or something... i can't say MSN8 did anything for me except clog up disk space and look ugly. MS just dont get it when it comes to the GUI
