[help] animated gifs and safari

Is there anyway to make Safari animate animated gifs that are backgrounds?

If they dont work then i cant think of any way to make them work. Looked around on safari and it appears to be a bug in the browser, so there's not much you can do about it. But i'm surprised u wish to use one as a background, will that not just be distracting for the user as far as the design of the site goes?

no i want to have a background as when it is :hover...

safari just doesn't animate gifs [if it's a background], and it hasn't been fixed forEVER...
