[help] reshacking latest shell32.dll

hi all,

i just did windows update and i had to re-hack my shell32.dll file. unfortunately, something is different this time and i can't replace the file without hosing my system.

i get:

"The application or DLL C:Windowssystem32shell32.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your Installation diskette."

i had problems with winlogone.exe, lsass.exe and services.exe. i also get: "The logon user interface DLL msgina.dll failed to load."

all i did was replace icons, delete bitmaps, and modify dialogs. it shouldn't be doing this.

any ideas? xp is killing me. thanks! :)

How are you replacing the files after modding them? I would suggest hacking them with reshacker but not saving over the original from within reshacker. Save out to a different location and then use batchmod to make your replacements.

I have no problems with hacking the new shell32, i used batchmod.

i copied shell32.dll to the desktop and reshacked the copy. then i replaced with replacer.

can you teach me batchmod, duke? i've never used it before.

or maybe you could try it out. i have all the icons saved in a folder with their icon group numbers.

batchmod worked like a treat! i have no idea why reshacking didn't work, but all is well. :)
