Linux doc?

it is pretty amazing that the linux community hasn't come up yet with a Dock for linux, yeah yeah.. I know that the gnome panel and the kde kicker perform this function but not as nicely as the dock.

Same goes for iChat, the current instant messenger programs out there are just ..errr... ugly...

what do you guys think?

Linux has come a long way... i wouldnt be surprised if someone could make a dock for linux that would be just beautiful... and i bet making an instant messenger for Linux would be EASY!! just get some instant Messaging code change the look of it and done.. hehehe

so is 3 against 1 , I personally would not like too see a dock on linux in know kicker got its flaws but instead of having a dock I say improve on kicker and make it better ,there r alot of ideas floating and great people doing some new improvements on kicker already.

Yeah, the DOCK would be awesome in linux. I would definately switch to linux if an awesome theme with the DOCK (dock spelt with a k).

Man, just thinking about it makes me drool.

Pacal, kicker only works in KDE, what about the rest of windows managers?

Duckie mentioned that there was an opensource dock in sourceforge but nobody was working on it anymore, if I find it I may try to get it to work.

As far as iChat, there are already existant libraries for the protocols, I gave it a try but gave up on the UI the existent toolkits are not really design to do an "OSX loog" the layouts are difficult to work with.

it be interesting to find this opensource dock.. if only someone could find it...

im also wondering if Xwindows could even handle a dock like with the transparency.. alpha blending.. well im sure it can be done as apha blending works in Xwindows... but it just be interesting to see if it could work out for linux
