well it all depends on your friend's field of expertise and education.
he'd be most sucessful in his perefered field of interest so that would be a good start 
One thing im going to advise: tell him not to get into computers professionally. with outsourcing and everything, he wont stand a chance
who knows...maybe people will start outsourcing to romania...?
