Can't make normal icon shadow!?

Hello everyone!

This is my first post here, I hope someone can help me. First of all, excuse me if make some grammar (or even worse) mistakes: my English is not perfect!

Now, the problem. I'm using Photoshop, Icon Composer and Pic2Icon to make icons. So far, every single icon that I made had very light, almost white shadow. Not black or dark gray but very very light gray. It looks perfectly normal in PS regardless the method (Layer effect - drop shadow, or "manually" painted then blurred). I guess it has something to do with masks but I just can't get it right. Pic2Icon has an option "Create drop shadow" and it makes normal, dark gray shadow but it shrinks icon by a 1/4.

Also I'm sorry if this was answered somewhere else on the forum, I couldn't find it.

I hope I didn't make this to much complicated, any help would be appreciated!

Well it appears that you have to have a proper mask for your icon. Some tutorials about it:

what you want to do is make your shadow black

go to your shadow layer and hit "CTRL+U"

that will bring up the hue and sat settings

drag the lightness slider all the way down

your shadow will become black

now, use the opacity slider in the layers menu to make it lighter for you (try 50%)

alternatively, if you used a layer style for the drop shadow

go to the layer styles, go to the drop shadow

make sure the color is black, and lower the opacity to like...50%

dunno but on Macs, any graphic IN photoshop is different once it comes OUT...

but mostly it messes up oranges/flesh colors and green colors, as well as making shadows and highlights more contrasting...

maybe you have the size or opacity down?

How do you mean .. when it comes out? You can't have your monitor/Photoshop calibrated correctly!
