Stupid Internet Site Blocking

This issue is about the blocking of sites in my highschool. God its so annoying. They blocked everything, all webmail clients (hotmail, gmail, yahoo etc.) And so many other good sites, afterdawn.com, xbox-scene.com etc. Can't get anywhere. Before we used to bypass this by downloading a different browser, such as firefox, opera etc. I installed firefox onto my flash drive and just hooked it up to the computer when i needed it. Now it seems as though even if the app loads, it doesnt connect. Tried opera also with similar results. It used to be just restricted to Internet Explorer but i guess they did some kind of system wide port blocking or something that is beyond my understanding. Help please.

(Seph, I hope you got an answer for me buddy;) )

get a program to destroy the computer, that will work

#271334

Yea good idea Doaster.

#271336

well they've done something similiar at my school as well, and it seems like we cant bypass this. Its for the good anyway, be a good boy and do the work you're supposed to be doing ;)

especially if you're in ur final year, trust me, i learned the hard way

Yea i'm a senior and ALP's-ing Advanced Web Design to make a web site for the school tech department. I cant get to a lot of design sites. Thank god they did nothing to aqua-soft.org. Maybe if i visit here too much they will. No solution anyone, whats the internal process going on here, i'm no network adminstrator.:(

#271343

go into the command prompt and type in "ping www.thesiteyouwantunblocked.com"

soon after you will get an ip address. type that into the address bar in your browser and hit go :D

depending on your school's blocking system, it may or may not work, usually they block the .com and not the ip address

i have the same stupid problem in my school. do you know why? it's because of my stupid classmates "unknowinly " opening porn mail in their email account! they stare, and when somebody comes along they freak out and say "it wasen't my fault! i thought it was homework mail" gosh my classmates are stupid idiots.

my solution is, to use a computer that isn't blocked. how at school or blocked comptuer? use vnc. i use it access my computer and i can do anything i want with it.

Hey Lou..........that could possibly work at a Kinko's Store as well correct??? I use Kinko's a lot when I'm out of town working and they block EVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERYTHING! In fact it's ironic that this thread caught my attention b/c just last week (@ Kinko's) I was on a messageboard for D-Block fans......Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, Styles P, etc........and had been on there numerous times in the past from the same Kinko's. Then the very next day I tried going to the site and it gave me the same message that it gives when it blocks porn related sites. Why would that have overnight become a banned site when it has nothing to do with anything inappropriate???

BTW - Lou I'm testing it right now......

Probably because the text in that site had alot of swearing.

I mean, you ARE talking about HipHop, right?

Hey, on those computers, do you login with a username/pass to get into windows? If so all you have to do is disconnect the network cord after you login plug it back in and it will work, I have to do that at my college all the time.

my school has everything on serious lockdown. luckily, usb data stick thingies work so my friend got me AIM and some Keylogger app that records what's typed in. So I ran the keylogger and got an admin to allow me to one site (temporarily bypass bess) and recorded the username and password. now I just use that whenever I want (I just have to be careful not to get caught) so try getting a stick and the app and doing that. Or you can just get a friend to host a proxy server, or mess around with the OS (I have windows 2000 on the ****ty dells at school but there are ways to hack it even though it's running some Novell client that doesn't let you do anything except look at your own documents and use IE for browsing and downloading.

Well if the schools set it up properly, there is no way to bypass it.

Here at work we restrict a few sites due to their subject matter. I shouldn't have to explain what kind... anyway. The proxy servers do not require a proxy ID to connect through them, they use blanket restrictions.

And yes... our proxies will even reverse lookup an IP if one is enetered to see if it matches a blocked URL.

We used to convert the IP to hex and then enter that into the address bar, but the software is now smart enough to figure that out as well. You could try it and see if that works.

Do you know what type of proxy server or software they are using? If so, post it and I will tell you if the hex conversion will work or not.

rjohnstone to the rescue :).

Also, take a look at this page, thanks to our own Tig4!

Hope this helps,

P.S: @Nico--are you crazy?! People get expelled, or at least suspended for a long time, for stuff like that :/. Don't ask me why, but educational institutions tend to get iffy over their very expensive "stuff." :P

Thanks so much...but does anyone understand how to setup SSL. So that I can access gmail etc... Otherwise, any mail services won't work through the proxy

I hear ya Duckie but oddly enough it's a brand new forum started like two weeks ago and isn't very active even yet so there aren't a great deal of threads started.......and having thought about it....the swearing isn't that rampant either.....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... but I never even thought of that as being a possibility. Also, I have no problems at all with many of the other hip hop forums that I am a regular in terms of being blocked so it doesn't make sense to me.

Glad to see this thread is making some buzz. Thanks everyone for the replies. :)

rjohnstone i wish i knew what in the world ur talking about, lol, i dont even know what proxy means. Anyway, we login with username and password and all i know is that we used the NOVELL client. If you tell me how to find out the info that u need to understand the situation, i'll definitely try it.

Also as Timan said, we enter a username and password and then login to the computer. And yea Timan, we do do the cable pulling out thing too. But kids started doing it too often, and in clear view, so admins started to notice. One admin came up to me and said, "hey do u know what the kids are doing with pulling the cable out, i cant seem to figure it out" And i was like, "ummm no, sorry, dont know about that one"

Louie Mantia, cool idea. However restrictions dont allow any student to access the command prompt.

Can anyone explain why loading firefox from my usb stick isnt working anymore.

Hey if anyone has tried the technique on my site, let me know if you need any help. So far it has yet to fail for me. If anyone needs to use my proxy (if you don't have the ability to set it up yourself) just PM me and I can give you the URL. :)

But there are too many ads. :(

#271952

Good find ryanfelix. Too many ads though as Dirty Ole said. Maybe if you are using the google toolbar, it can handle the popups.

Still waiting on TiG4's proxy URL....
