Mac Desktop Icons

I am asking again because i DID search the forum and did not find an answer to my exact question. A long while ago I had some software that allowed me to drag and drop png images onto my desktop as icons and then I could put them bubbles of color behind the words (or 'labels'). But I cannot remember - or find - the app that would allow me to achieve such an effect. I have tried Samurize and Ave Desk and they don't seem to be doing what i want - that or I am using them wrong. I hope someone can help me in some way with this
