Well, the headline shows that the author of the article is not a professional reporter of news but somebody who lost his way to the editorial department or just found his check from M$.
A dock that functions similar to the Aqua dock is a real asset to the graphic interface because of its ease of use.
yes i agree, i like the dock, but i think the reason why i like the dock so much is more because of the eye candy and not really the functionality (obviously if i use beta and alpha versions that have not implemeted the functionality yet) it still looks cool though, sometimes i sit and just move my mouse over it just to watch it. I took a look at the other program that they mentioned that the author liked though and it also look cool. I wonder if anyone will make one of thoose for PC too??
I agree that the appeal of the dock is largely the eye candy. Desktops have been so boring in the past... before these dock programs, I had a Windows toolbar that auto-hid at the bottom of the screen where the dock normally is. It was ok... but rather ugly. The icons weren't nearly as cool or big and the whole magnification fun wasn't there. It was useful, but boring.
The dock is both useful and helps ease the strain of boring desktop life. Who cares if it doesn't obey Fitts' Law? None of these HCI people ever take into account the enjoyability of an interface... just the technical aspects of how long it takes someone to find what they're looking for. Who cares how long if the user is having fun?
I like the dock because we have all these nice big icons but before the docks no reasonable way to really show them off on your desktop without littering it with so many icons or setting your icons to be huge which makes folder icons huge too.
OSX is decended of NeXTstep just as WinXP is descended of NT. NeXTstep's interface was almost the epitome of fitt's law. But Mac users did not like this they wanted something more Mac like so they invented the infamous Aqua interface. So IMO fitt's law isn't everything.
I enjoy interfaces like this and.. enlightenment on linux because they are fun to use. Who cares if it takes a millisecond or a couple of seconds longer to launch a program as long as you are having a good time doing it.
I'm one of the eye candy types obviously and I enjoy making my computer look the best it can. And I find that despite what they might say even in their alpha\beta states the current win docks are good.

cant stand anyone whos having a bitter tone or wishing the end of such a masterful website like ours, with the #1 leading resources on the internet, with the most talented people in the skinning community (yeah, they are all right here...in aqua-soft). I appologize im being a lil extreme, but it reminds me of this australian kid who's name is censored who scared the **** out of me with the threats of illegal bull****izm. see, my tone here is a result of a "trauma" we all sufferd when "bitten fruit" was hunting down some communities linked to us. ...so any articles with a negative tone.. set me off. Thanks for understading.. im just being motivated 
Hope we can run into a lil more positive/less sarcastic attitude for a change of some 3rd parties, praising our community and our site in particular which has only brought a surprisingly GOOD change to apple. People were exposed to a different wonder world of user interface and functionality, and A LOT of them were switching to apple, or having a mac besides their pc as a result. The bigger the community with the most products to offer, the more people will switch. ITS A FACT.

I like the Dock, I reaaly love it. I love Aqua interface and I'm so glad to have a part of it on my PC. What is this? Another emanation of Apple lawyers? Somebody MUST remember Apple how manny people which was more or less members or sympathizants of Aqua-Soft are bying macs since the first Aqua-Soft site appears. I think the copyright laws are good, but the abuzing of its are verry bad. Remember, all the ba marketing of Apple is only the consequence of their bad politics. The computers are better than PCs, The Apple OS-es are better than any version of Windows, but the Apple abusement of copyright laws are bad. If I or anybody of you have a dock it not seems to stolen some of MacOSX. Apple believes that all the superiority of their OS is only the interface? Poor lamers.
Everybody can have their particular oppinion about anything, but MUST last the others to have their particular oppinion. Mybe I like rock music, but I don't like jazz. This not means to critic the persons that love jazz.
