So I finally made the switch away from the bloated DEs, to fluxbox. I had to find good aps that were easily usable in it, and one of the wonderful features of using a lighter WM is that you can have the screensaver as a wallpaper, and its completly hardware accelerated (its built into all unices in fact).
Heres how, as ROOT (or su) type:
/usr/X11R6/lib/xscreensaver/(screensaver name) -root
Flurry is what im using, its wonderful. 0% slowdown, AA, and shadows.

PS. This might not work well if your using a generic video card driver (ex. VESA). Since the generic drivers dont really support hardware acceleration. If your running a main stream card (nvidia, ATI) it should work fine though.
