A-S Hall of Fame

I'm writing because I think that it is important that an A-S 'Hall of Fame' should be established.

It's inevitable that A-S will keep being handed over to younger and younger generations as the leaders at A-S either lose interest in skinning, become consumed by daily life, or simply disappear. As this happens, I feel it would be important for the community to retain some idea of how it started. Those who run A-S in the future should know who Jef, Duckie, Disciple, DeadZombie, Iceman, Moby, Timan, Goku, Taha, Siddharth and countless others are, why they are important to A-S's history, and how the advanced the efforts of AquaEmu.

Yeah theres an entire series (4 of 5 i think) of aqua history that includes many of the names Godpunk is mentioning.....it's good to know the past but it doesnt help new members at all....they'll still ask questions without searching the boards and such ;D

I agree, they way some people talk, its as though it was during the 60's and you were all 'fighting the man'.

The level of apps/skins/developers/designers etc etc is at an all time high. I feel we should rally round the current guys carrying on the great work that everyone has put in to get A-S where it is today and keep it moving forward.

I think there are enough "oh i miss the old times / i am just here to visit and then im gone / worship my name cause i know about the big crash and the flash dock / you ****s are rubbish" threads, why not post in one of those..

Aside from that... someone is meant to be forgotten and then will the crap begin.

yes, we've all come a long way in aqua emulation. I can remember when I was using desktop x to emulate a dock in flash way back when, beofre any docks were around. how many of you remember when this place was aqua-man.net? ;) I just updated my bookmarks the other day, seems I hadn't updated in a good 3 years! :P

Whilst a Hall of Fame is an interesting idea, I agree with Seph (for once). We have all these people *****ing about how terrible this place has become, but just look around the site and look at everything we've accomplished.

IMO, this isn't reminiscing about how good Aqua emulating used to be, and how crappy it is now. Nor should it become that.

This is simply a list of people who have done a lot for Aqua emulating. It doesn't even have to be all "the old people", it could be about something that happened last week.

This list is more of a way to honor people than anything else. There should be NO nostalgia, or longing for the past.

But hey, it's not my thread :P.

I feel it would be important for the community to retain some idea of how it started.

I don't feel that we need a current Hall of Fame etc - because we have the forum itself. People who care about the community know who the main people are, those who are here to leech etc arn't going to take the time to stop and read about how the community started.

Mine are Shak, Iceman and Wuzzie.

I don't liek Shak much, but he started the best aqua Forum ever, and then screwed it up.

Iceman started the whole aqua customizing thing. I cant exclude him.

And I just want to get on the wall of fame. :P

What's wrong with remembering? And for that matter, where in tthe hell does it state that rememberance means 'moving backwards'.

A community can still move forward and have respect for those who came before them.

Do you disrespect Jim Morrison because he's in the past? No, becuase that would be ridiculous.

IceMan didnt 'start' anything. He learned how to do it from me and others. His claim to fame is taking what we did and merely continuing our work and improving it in some places.

1. Please use less inflammatory language.

2. No one said you can't remember; you just can't remember publicly.

3. There's just no point in another history thread because the history itself hasn't changed. Duckie did a good job retelling everything. If someone wants to write up an article/essay, maybe we could post it in some sort of Essay section outside of the forum (which we could create if people would actually write well thought-out pieces for AS).

To be honest, in our past, it was a war(of sorts).

We fought to keep AS open many times from the DoS attacks, to the Cease and Desist letters from ArentFox, to the WebHost droping our site, to the many Mac-O-Philes who sent throngs of bashers to our doorsteps...

We are looked upon as a stain on Apple's skin.(pun intended)

When our host dropped us, we carried on creating a server using Hotline.

When ArentFox sent the letter, we had to drop the number one application suite that started all this (see: AquaApps)

When the DoS attacks happened, our site went over its bandwidth and yet another host dropped us.

I'm not being dramatic, these things happened, and a few of us here feel a commraderie from that. We felt it was important to continue the growth of the community and further its cause.

Why do you think i get so flipping irate at these roten little whiners who scare off developers. Our purpose here is to welcome developers with open arms and help them create, not burden them with exhausting and ridiculous requests.

If you have respect for Apple and you are a mmeber of this community, then you should also remember those who fought to give you this place to commune.

Thumbing your nose at those of us who gave of our time isn't exactly respectful and only goes to prove my point that many of you are whining babies content to demanding your own free toys with no feelings or thought about the hard work that went into it.

This is not a generalization, so dont get all weepy and cry...but we all know that many people are selfish.

It's those few selfish people who ruin it for the rest of us which is why Ave isnt here anymore, as much, and all the others left too. I bet RzDock moves onto another site, sooner or later, because of all of your hounding and overbearing requests.

Just relax, people...have a good time, be respectful, and keep in mind this would all be a dream if it werent for Jef.

If you are going to get ticked off by anyone, you need to go out and learn how to handle teases and obnoxious clueless remarks ( i think i learn that in primary school, right? )

This is why we do not have more "Remembrance" threads, because it seems to be a gathering place for people to come and bash, set your priorities straight people, most of the people here wont remember you even if you "try" this hard. The ones that know what you did, like me, do and we dont need a thread full of names that 1. Will not get visited, 2. Will surely miss someone and 3. Sadly, it will not mean **** to most of the viewers here and you wont be able to change that.

If you are after some kind of inmortalization (its ok, its only natural) dont look for a god damned forum to build your statue. There is a statue build to you "old timers" in the heart of any true aqua softian, however, your stupid bickering makes it feel pointless to have it.
