How do you convert a png to an icon?

#23239

Use The Search Man. :)

#23243

I've tried everything, All of the icons turn out to be jagged

#23244

Save the PNG as PSD then import to Icon Workshop, Icon Sushi, or Icon Gear and Export as ICO. That is all in a very small nutshell.

Well to make things easier for you in the future, download these apps (if you dont have them) and then just use these directions as needed.

[stuffit Expander]

Download any .sit file containing mac icons. I use version 7.5 because 8 sucks man, they changed up all the options. Anyway open Stuffit Expander and go to the Edit>Options menu. Click the "Cross Platform" tab and make sure these are checked; Convert Text files to Windows Format>Never, Save Macintosh files in MacBinary format>Always, Add File Extension>Never. Thats it for Stuffits settings. After extracting a .sit files contents, this is where the next app comes into play.

[LionTechs IconShop]

Open the program then navigate to the folder with the mac icons in it. You should now be able to see them. Now just right click any image you want and save as .ico, trust me that this is better for you in a long run, because with the next app you can batch process whatever you want so converting vise versca is a snap. Now that you have done this to all the images you want, close IconShop and get ready for the last step. 1 more thing, always make sure you save them as 128 icon size.

[Axalias IconWorkshop]

Open the program (Use version 5.02) and press CTRL+E to browse for the folder with the icons you just saved. Now that you see them, highlight them all with CTRL+A, right click and choose "Batch create PNG, PSD or BMP images from selected icons". Make sure the color setting is WindowsXP, Size is 128, Saved as PNG preserving transparency. So there you have .pngs but for the main question after I wasted all this time lol, converting .pngs to .icos, Its kind of the same way. Using Axalias IconWorkshop, CTRL+E to browse for the .pngs you wish to convert. Highlight them all, right click and this time choose "Batch Create Windows Icons from Selections". Now just check off what ever size and color formats you want, and there it goes all done.

If you have any problems just post back man. Later! ^_^
