Just curious if anybody has stumbled on a bandwidth thing on a LAN.
Linksys Wireless Router with SpeedBooster 4 wired ports. second computer is getting dial-up like bandwidth where the other computer is boasting an 8MB bandwidth speed. Crazy i know.
Is there anybody that can give me some kind of solution. I've also tried manually configuring IP address to a set IP within the same internet gateway and nothing seems to work.
Help would be appreciated.
Are you shure its not a hardware issue? Is your network cable good?

I've also noticed a definate speed shift when going on wifi (airport [802.11G] to be exact), using bandwith tests I lose about 400kb/s when on wifi (even though I get a signal strenght of 80%) compared to when on ethernet. With a direct ethernet cable I get 1200kb/s consistantly on tests, but on wifi I get only 600kb or so.
Anyone know if this is hardware issue or is there some tweaking that I can do to fix this (I am on a mac btw).

I think that when you do bandwidth test, you shouldn't select cable, but wireless.
Okay... well as far as i know the cable is still good... recently it was made and has been tested. Whether or not it be a hardware problem is still in question. Before switching to this new linksys router it was fine just the drawback of the internet connections disconnecting every several minutes.
My own computer on the otherhand as well as a computer which i have connected to the router as well have been flying on the internet where as the second main computer is lagging or in this case close to dead 'dial-up' speeds.
I am running on a Cable modem with this new linksys router. All three computers connected to this router are all P4 computers running on xp sp2 I'd definitely like to get this issue solved if at all possible.
Ok...two things i can think of. First with WIFI...are there any other wireless networks in your vicinity? Could be a sharing of the same channel kind of thing. I used to run into this issue in my last apartment, there were about 20 different wireless networks and if my router shared the same channel as any of the other networks there would be issues. Think old cordless phones with channel selectors.
Also I'm assuming this router is 802 G...Make sure in your router config page you have it set to all speeds, if the card in the one computer is an a or b card...and your router is set to G only, there will be issues
As far as wifi speeds go, you will notice considerable fall off in BW the further away from the router you are
I live in a neighbourhood.. and well I can't say for sure if there are any other wireless networks. The computers that are on this router are actually wired to the router itself. Which you'd think that the bandwidth should be the same on all ports. I only have one wireless computer here with me at the moment and it's blazing along just as well.
I'm already aware of the router config with various 802.11 a/b/g it is set to all speeds. and well i'm not going too far away from the router either so still my question remains unanswered.
