Meh! Not a big MP3 player fan, i got the older ipod and alothough it was an amazing peice of kit, my mini disc player still beats it on sound quality, not only can i transfer mp3's to mini disc using NETmd, i dont have to keep deleting songs to keep the storage down, MD's rock and at £1 a disc its the better choice ..... well thats my opinion anyway ;)

#23233

Mind you 30gigs? thats pretty good

#23234

Looks beautiful, like Jenna Jameson or Jill Kelly with their legs spread wide open. j/k ;) I really want to get one, it would match perfectly with the powerbook G4 17" I want to get. I wonder who will make the iTunes 4 skin for QCD  I would if I knew how to make it. :D

Well, I have a MiniDisc player and I think it is the greatest thing ever for recording things. I mean its digital! You can record literally anything you want, wherever you want in perfect digital quality! It doesn't get much better than that! It's an amazing little recorder, but I think it sucks for just music playback. Its kind of clunky and the discs actually dont store that much music. They store about the amount of music a regular cd will hold. (which nowadays is not that much) So I end up lugging around 10 or so minidiscs, which are clunky and take up space and can crack and break. Then when I want to listen to a new song that is on a different disc I have to pop out the current disc and open up my bag, find the right disc, then insert it.

To me its annoying. Especially when I like to make lots of different playlists that posses songs that are also in other playlists. To me, that makes listening to music infinity times more enjoyable. The MiniDisc players as far as I'm concerned are no better than the clunky cd players with their clunky cd's, at least for playback that is. The iPod posseses the elegance and inuitiveness of their computers. Personally I wouldn't even think about other MP3 players. Until I saw the iPod, I didnt even look at MP3 players. But, the iPod does what all of the others fail to do. And that is use the technology in an elegant, inuitive, useful way, rather than slap it all together and call an MP3 player. I mean, Apple actually put thought and time into their design. Hey look what comes out!

Oh and by the way, Kidda, the iPod can produce the exact same sound quality that your minidisc player can produce if you want it to. Just make sure you use wav file formatting. Do not convert your music into MP3 format before dumping onto your iPod. The iPod can hold infinitely more music than those tiny little discs can hold. The new iPod can hold a stack of 50 minidiscs in full wav file sound quality! Not too shabby huh??

check this out. This Music Store thing sure looks interesting. Too bad its US-only..

anyway, I can confirm what JMitch just said. You can store ANYTHING on the iPod, including your entire OS :P, so there's nothing stopping you from saving the song in a .wav format. So y'all complainers caint complain.. B)

Ya I was wondering this also. At first I was glad that the new ones came out so I could get the old ones cheaper, but now I'm starting to drool over the new ones!! I think I'm going to splurge.

Anyways, Apple isnt selling the old ones anymore. They have discontinued the older models, they are out of production. But, there are still loads still on the shelves of stores like Best Buy. I'm sure they're going to drop the price to get the older models off the shelves and out of the stock! ;)

What do tou guys think about the new design? I rather the old one... this is just so boring and simple.. too simple I mean.

#23376

well, in the site says, it has half the depth and the weight it's the same as 2 music cd's. I've got an old one (10 GB, I bought it in January and now its old  ) and its a bit heavier in comparision. I like both designs

see ya

Well, it is not necessary to say the smaller the better (not in all cases, hehe) but I was refering to the frontal part of the iPod. I can't avoid coming along with the buttons in this thread as well but I liked the way they were surrounding the touching wheel.

Hey frenz if you ever want to buy a new model and sell the old one... ;)

Goku what do you think about the new buttons? :P

Hahaha, that is true Mac love and the rest is nonsense. BTW, I'm going to FNAC in a few minutes and I will ask for the new iPods. (It is almost sure they have not received them but...)

#23402

An advice: If you go to FNAC ask for the apple guy, I think his name was Manuel. ;)

#23405

I arrived. They have not received the new iPod in FNAC and in addition they are having problems to receive the old ones :o

I did not ask forthe Apple guy tough...

I liked the old design. Looked as if it had only one button. The new one has more rounded corners and buttons... and we all know how questionable buttons are these days! (Love@Goku!)

It seems to me that Apple is slowly turning the iPod into a PDA, the way mobile phones evolving into PDAs. Contacts, games, notes, files... It will soon need a full keyboard!

Have a nice day!

if they included a clock chip, then that would be awesome, as it wouldn't suck battery life, like the old one apparently did.

i'd really like to buy one, but i'd take the old one simply for price (well, it's bound to cost less soon at least) if i could get new firmware and similar battery life.

i mean, even if the old one is twice as thick, it's still really small.

/me goes off to read some ipodlounge/ipodhacks and buff up on this stuff.

ttyl,

Felix
