Hi All,
I have the windows messenger 4.7 and it is not opening, it looks like it is opening by looking the busy cursor, cant see the window???
so....
I removed 4.7 and tried to install 5.1, then i got a window saying repair and remove, where remove is disabled.... then i tried repair,
got the following error
"A network error occured while attempting to read from the file c:messenger51.msi"
any help? 
i would suggest removing every single msn messenger, then instal 6.2 it's stable and reliable. did you instal any flyakite packs?
no i didnt install flyakite packs and i want windows messenger, as i already have msn messenger, i want to use windows messenger as well as i do use it sometimes when needed... so please dont recommend MSN messenger as i already have it...

I reccomend you trash Windows AND MSN Messenger and go get Trillian 3.1.

When messenger was 4.1 it was still part of the PRE NT 5.1 ( wINDOWS XP ), with all of the moddification since the arrival of XP, MSN and the MSN have been slowly intergrated by way of XP update.
MSN is now the default IM for new XP OEMs and MCE releases.
In short..., why would would want to revert back to an IM best suited for Win 9.x and ME?

No... Windows Messenger is NOT MSN Messenger and they are NOT the same.
They use similar protocols, but Windows Messenger is designed for corporate use with Server based products like Exchange, Sharepoint, and Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005.
MSN Messenger just began providing LIMITED support for Exchange services.
If they were one in the same, then explain why BOTH are still being developed.
Windows Messenger 5.1 was released on 12-15-2004.
And to quote from M$ own docs...
For customers using Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005, Windows Messenger 5.1 is the required client to take advantage of the following new features in Live Communications Server 2005:
- Federation (sharing IM and presence between two or more organizations)
- Advanced architecture (higher availability and failover support)
Note that certain features REQUIRE Windows Messenger, not MSN Messenger.
