Clutter For Pc?

I really like using the application Clutter on my iBook. For those of you who do not know it, it places the cover art of your CDs that you have in iTunes on your desktop and you can then click the pictures to play them. Do a search on www.versiontracker.com if you want to know more.

Well, it is easy enough to make a config to put pngs of the album covers on PC desktops with Samurize. Would it be possible to somehow write a script, which, when the config was launched would be able to play a playlist in WMP for the appropriate album?

I know nothing at all about writing scripts and just wondered if it could be done?

hmmm.. sounds interesting, I'm definitely gonna check it out now.

By the way, considering what some people have been capable of doing with samurize, I don't think it will be too hard.

what iBook model/rev do you have?

I have the same one as you 9i think! 12" 800, bought two months ago. 384 Mbs Ram, is the only hardware upgrade, although i use it with my 17" LCD Monitor, through the spanning firmware hack, which enables me to view it all in 1280 x 1024, which is great, when i'm at my desk.

There are things that I prefer in Xp to OS X, but generally, I could switch completely, without too many worries, but I would need to spend £200-300 on software which I cannot afford just yet.

How do you feel about the comparison, now havong both? Would also be iterested to know if you like Clutter

well well well, it seems we have identical machines. Except I have 640RAM .

I too have applied the hack, but I can't the permanent one to work. I can only do the one that works for each boot. Mind telling me how you did it?

Anyway, the idea of this app is great, but it doesn't seem to work for me . Maybe its becaue the songs I listen to are so unknown (Turkish sufi, Indian traditional, tabla sitar, etc..)

By the way, I'm curious what you like more about Xp..

The monitor spanning works fine for me, although I occasioanlly lose a wallpaper on one monitor or the other which reverts back to the default, but I can live with that. Have a look at this link. This is exactly what i did.

Doesn't an increase of Ram make a huge difference to OS X, by the way.

Clutter may not work for you because it tries to get the pictures from Amazon.com. If they don't stock your CDs then it will not be able to find them. However, you can add the pictures manually to the program, so you culd scan your CD covers and do it that way.

It's only a bit of fun, really, but one of the many that I think makes OS X such a joy to use.

There are 3 things I miss from XP.

Explorer as a file manager. I know The Finder is much more than a file manager, but Explorer is just so much quicker for me.

Right click menu. Yes I know it is there in OS X, but XP has it much more fully developed. I think this will come with time. maybe Panther?

Drivers for my printers. I have them for OSX, but they have far fewer options and settings. Not Apple's fault, I know, but a sign that there is still a tendency to treat Mac users as second class citizens.

That's about it really. There are so many things to love about OS X, that when I can afford the software I shall probably leave XP behind for good.

How do you find the comparison??

1) Clutter: yeah.. I guess thats the reason. I really don't listen to what the average Joe listens to.

2) I look at your reasons for liking XP more and I smile. I smile because that was EXACTLY what I was feeling 1 month ago.

a) File navigation: don't forget to use cmd+shift+g

Right click menu: hmm.. well cmd+I is pretty useful, and you can even do some powerful stuff from the dialog box that pops up. I dunno, I never really use the right click menu in XP anyway..

c) DRIVERS FOR PRINTERS!!!! Ahh.. this one was my main gripe. But there is AMAZING driver pack out there that even supports my old Epson 740 and even my HP 560!! Oh, I just love the driver pack... But the problem is, I can't remember what it was called. I think it was gimp-print.

Can you run Unix drivers on a mac? I didnt know that. I use GIMP-PRINT in Linux. Its a great driver set. It supports all 3 of my HP printers (of assorted age), and it allows you to print in really high quality. Good stuff.

yup, just checked, and it IS Gimp-Print. Lovely stuff.. it even supports samba printing via network - which I find particularly useful, having 3 computers in one room..

I am affraid that I have not been able to find any screenshot from the application you were talking about.

But if I am not mistaken there is Windows Media Center that does just that.

The app itself, the Media Center is a big step ahead from the traditional jukebox concept. cool transitions, and thumbnail browsing are just a few features.

However, I am not still thrilled with the grass & sky color scheme of XP and I am sure that Mac can do a better job on the same concept ( started by Microsoft haha), but Media Center remains a great application that -from my point of view- surpasses the Itunes by far.

Well, IMHO, iTunes easlily beats any Windows Media Player, but Winamp 2.x is king. I mean, what with all the plugins and supported file types, advanced options, manual network buffering (iTunes has it too, actually) and other options, it is by far the best player..
