[request] Icon system

I have three PidlShortcuts on my desktop all of which are related to removeable media drives. So when the cd/dvd disc or usb drive is removed, these shortcuts fade out. Anyway, all of the shortcuts (when media is added) show the desklet in the same spot. Meaning if 2 or 3 of them are loaded, i've got shortcuts on top of one another...which doesn't look good.

My idea for an icon system would be that, if a shortcut is at (x,y) and was showing (meaning media was present in that drive), that if another cd was inserted the shortcut wouldn't load up at (x,y) but at (x, y+100), and the same for the third.

Also incorperating priorities, therefore, the USB drive would always be at the top, when plugged in.

I hope this makes sense.

edit:

I have created some images to help explain;
