Hey guys,
I have a 12" powerbook, and I am going to upgrade the RAM from the default 256 mb that it comes with. I am undecided on whether I should upgrade to 512 mb ($100ish) or 1 gb ($200ish). I use my powerbook mainly for school-related work and photoshop/flash. I know the more RAM you have the better, but I don't want to spend more money than is necessary.
Any help is appreciated.

If its just school and photoshop then 512 is better, because on a 12" screen anyways its hard to work with any image of such size that would require more ram then 512,,, i mean you probably dont work w/ images of like 4kx4k pixels do you?
The bulk of my PS work will be with images 17" x 11" (or some variation of that) @ 300 DPI. Perhaps I should go with 1 gb. What do you think?

well then if you're planning on working with such large images then yes of cource go with the gig, because photoshop starts struglin a bit when working with such big images with 500 megs
Keep in mind that you already have 256 MB inside--you can buy another 256 for around 50 dollars. Where are you getting those prices from?

I went to my school's bookstore (Apple Retailer), and the guy there told me that upgrading to 512 was about $100 and a gig was about $200 (I don't remember what he quoted me exactly, it was a few weeks ago).
Go for the 1GB DIMM.
Just remember to buy it from a good RAM dealer, such as Crucial: Macs are picky with their RAM, and buying cheap will often result in them failing or not being recognized at all.
