[Ann] New iPods

The new iPods lineups really anger me. I bought a 40GB iPod photo for $499, and they go ahead and release a new 60Gb for only $449! I bought it last year in November, but I'm going to see what I can do about a refund ;)

FYI: the line up ~

iPod shuffle 512MB - $99

iPod shuffle 1GB - $149

iPod mini [4 new colors] 4GB - $199

iPod mini [4 new colors] 6GB - $249

iPod 20GB - $299 [dropped 40GB]

iPod photo 30GB - $349

iPod photo 60GB - $449

I am so f***ing pissed off at Apple, aren't you?

I think when it comes to Apple hardware, this is kinda what always happens. Every single time I have bought Apple, the same thing happens to me. There's not much you can do. Unless you bought the iPod a month ago, you won't get a discount or upgrade. Believe me, I have been on the horn with customer service for hours on this very topic. It happened with my own iPod, my 17" G4 Powerbook, my cinema display, etc. Welcome to the Apple hardware selling machine.

This is how the consumer market moves, people :P They release new hardware and drop prices to remain competitive...

I am really angry :slant:

#257663

I am sure my boss must be really pissed off, i think he bought a walkman in 1989 for that price

#257664

You know, I've got this 400MHz Pentium II that I bought like six years ago, and now they have the cheek of releasing all these new-fangled 3.0GHz Pentium IVs!

I'm going to demand a refund. :P

But seriously, you can't expect Apple to either not release new hardware or the same for cheaper (especially 3 months after your purchase). People who bought the same as you yesterday are in the same boat, Apple is under no requirement to upgrade you free of charge just because they've updated their line. (Of course if they bought a faulty model etc, they may well get a newer model at no charge)

D'you think if I threw my iPod into the pool that Apple will get me a new one? :D:P

no. :)

buying dosen't only involve the pruduct and the price, but the market as well. you have to know when and how things are going.

sad that pple likes being silent about their next releases so it's not entirely your fault.

#257693

pwnzrzpat, I doubt you will get a refund. Apple will probably just tell you that prices are subject to change (its as simple as that). I bought a 40GB iPod photo for $500 (when it was all said and done). Oh well its too late now...... ;)

they should have dropped the shuffle prices 30$ canadian each. (=159$ for a 1gig shuffle, 512mb sh isnt worth 1$)

There's only one reason to buy a shuffle instead of a 4gig now: sports.

there shouldn't be a 4gb mini anymore.. should just be 6gb at the 4gb price, maybe 10$ higher..

there's only one reason the 4gb still exists: price discrimination (look up that expression if you think it means an illegal corporate activity - it doesn't).

I was hoping for bluetooth.

#257715

if I buy an iPod do I have to specify what operating system I am going to use or is it possible to use it with a Mac or Windows? and if I cannot use it with both, can I reformat the iPod later if I get a Mac instead to replace Windows?

and you are saying that as a CEO of a multi billion company!

wait...

you DON`T have a multi bilion company. and i`m SURE you know more than TEAMS of pple that run Apple :slant:

I really don't pay attention to the miniPods, so bare with me.

These three "new" colors, did they just darken the colors? I know that there was already a pink (because all the girls went ga-ga over it) and a goldish one. And did they also just add the color into the touch-dial? Is that what constitutes them as "new"?

#257800

*GasP* they dropped the gold! Yea, I think you're right, wizard. I think the old colors looked better :slant:

Mac formatted > no Windows use

Windows formatted > yes Mac use [but file sizes are limited to 4GB]

#257894

They could have at least lowered the price for the 20GB one.

Rumour sites report that the 4GB will only be available until they sell out, as the 6GB will "replace" them..

And the colours are different, they seem much more vibrant (the blue especially) - although actual different colours would of been nice eh? I'd assume Apple did research into what colours would sell best (and I assume again that the gold was expect to do just as well as the others, but wasn't that popular).

The size limitation for a Windows-formatted iPod is essentially, non-existant. The only thing limiting the size of Fat32 is WindowsXP, and its at 32 GB not 4GB. And its limited only if WinXP itself formats the drive - if another OS does (as would the iPod OS), than WinXP can read even larger drives. And so can Mac - I have tried it myself.

The 4GB limitation is a file size, not volume size, so, unless you have a song that is larger than 4GB, yo are fine.
