AutoMounter Fix (AveDesk 1.2)
I sure want to fix this, but someone's gotta give me an USB drive first ![]()
well... I'm trying to switch from AveDesk 1.1 to 1.2 on a XP 2 laptop for a second time, and the same host of problems keeps popping up, so I'd like to go thru it with someone's helping hand...
I de-installed Av1.1 with Your Uninstaller and installed Av1.2 from the scrap. Opening Av1.2 for the first time results in a AveDesk process starting up and consuming gradually all of my RAM without booting the app.
Moved Automounter.aveinst into the Ave control window. Av1.2 does recognize Automounter immediately, but doesn't boot after restarting windows, instead the mentioned endless RAM-consuming process commences anew.
Installing Automounter by doubleclicking it with Av1.2 not running shows a "Open with"-dialog with AveDesk 1.2 not present. No way to get it recognized by XP via browse and point to its app icon. Running unregister.bat and register.bat doesn't do anything good, either.
AveDesk 1.1 worked fine ( its refusal to accept G and H as names of external HD desklets notwithstanding). Besides AveDesk 1.2, I did encounter only one single other app that was as difficult and tricky to install
What to do? Any helpful hints?

I have no idea what this means. You open avedesk 1.2 and it consumes all your RAM, but it you actually don't open avedesk (boot? )

Be sure to install as adminstrator.

Previous. AveDesk needs to be installed and for the first time started, while running with administrator rights.
Please be a little more clear, I have had a hard day (correcting other peoples code 12h hours long) and don't' want to spend too much time trying to understand what you actually mean.
thanks for helping me after 12 hrs!!! Really appreciate it
a) I'm installing it in Admin mode
on opening Windows Task Mgr in the Processes Window mode, after doubleclicking AveDesk 1.2, there is a process "AvDesk" running that starts at consuming about 9000 kb of memory and gradually works its way up (after 2 minutes or so: AvDesk consumes about 133.000 kb, adding kb by the pace of about 200 a second)
Given in percentage of free RAM needed for that process, Task Mgr shows AvDesk grabbing 97, 98 percent. The fan is starting to work continuously soon after the AvDesk process tries to boot the app
Okay, that's easier to understand, thanks ![]()
A) What are your system specs?
Machine type, Operating System, etc..
Delete %APPDATA%/AveDesk
C) Make sure you have MS XML 4 SP2: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en
D) Let me know if it worked after this
Just trying it once more: Process name is "AvDesk.exe"
Task Mgr Application window shows AvDesk as "running", however no AvDesk icon is shown in the taskbar
after half a minute, AvDesk.exe consumes 50.096 kb
ok, thanks, my second reply came while you send your answer; get back to you as soon as i tried your solution
Just trying it once more: Process name is "AvDesk.exe"
Are you sure it's AvDesk.exe ? Because AveDesk.exe should be the name of the process (notice the extra e )
sorry, yes, process is "Avedesk.exe"
AveDesk.exe, to be very precise here
just to make sure I'm doing it right:
downloaded the microsoft files and installed msxml.msi after uninstalling the old xml-files as advised by the release note
now there are three other msxml.exe files coming with that package, and running them requires me to point to the location where to put them... I'm at a loss here, no idea where to put them
or have they been already installed by running msxml.msi?
I'm by far not a windows expert
First one should do it (msxml.msi) .
Torsten DO NOT DOUBLEPOST, let alone quadpost or i'll delete your posts.
Use the edit option.
a) re: doublepost or quadpost: My browser brought the reply window up when submitting text in the quick answer window -
nothing happened when hitting the submit button in that regular reply window -
forum thread did not display any two- or quadfold replies in my browser window -
sorry for that, didn't know that each hit got displayed
the dildo quote isn't mine... did you get that quote from me?
AveDesk 1.2 seems to work fine by now - except that I don't find any way to add an external HD as a desklet. How to do that? F1 help doesn't work, no help file is popping up
Humm, I've got the same bug that alot people have!
When I insert usb devices or a cd they don't show on my desktop, and i've just downloaded the latest auto-mounter and when i drag it into the desklet control panel it doesn't do anything, that small dialog that confirms that it was sucessfully instaled doesn't appear. Do you know a simple solution? ![]()
[edit] Dunno what I did but the icons suddently appeared when I inserted a cd
, it's working now ![]()
tried everything that you said people... also installed msxml.msi... nothing happens.
I've installed avedesk 1.2, run register.bat, installed auto-mounter fix (the small pop up shows me that now i have the automounter installed) and after that, nothing happens.
The only thing i have on my desk (from avedesk) is one shortcut for each partition of my harddrive and "my documents" folder. I would like to have my cd drives whenever i put a cd in them mount and appear on my desk.
hope you can help me with this guys.
thanks in advance.
Problem: I've downloaded and installed Automouter. When I doubleclicked it nothing happened so i dragged it to the AveDesk Controlpanel and a little popup came up. i clicked it and then chose desklets > add in the controlpanel to use the mounter. Automounter wasn't there nor was there anything new on my desktop. Now I don't know what to do. Please help me.
I have AveDesk 1.2
For some reason this module likes to randomly delete itself... any idea why?
I think it boils down to MSXML not following the XPath guidelines until recently.
XML starts counting at 1, whereas MXSML starts at 0. They have fixed this behaviour, but, for backward compatibility, MSXML tries to be smart and tries to figure out when you want the 1 and 0 counting. There is some flag to force it to always start counting at 1, but I think I don't set it.
In short: I'll look for a fix
Would that make the module file itself be deleted though?
errr.... Not the file itself, but it would remove it from the list of "installed" modules.
I'm sorry to bug you.. So i drag the desklet in the control panel, but nothing happens?
So it seems to have stopped working completely now - reinstalling works for a bit, then nothing...
