[Help] Computer wont turn on

I have been having heaps of problems with my Acer Aspire P3 recently.

Now it won't turn on. The power suply still works. I know this because when I switch it on at the back (on the power suply) the little amber light goes on, and same with the screen, Except it says "NO SIGNAL" like it was a projector. If I take the power cord out from the back, freakishly the light stays on for about 3 seconds then turns off. When I put it back in, wsitch the power on, then press the front power button, the green "computer on" light flashes then stays off. The power light stays on.

I opened it up tightened everything, and added some more ram.

Anywho, I wanted to ask if anybody has an idea what the * is wrong?

Also, could the power suply be dead and the light is being powered by the battery or sumthin? and also, Would I have to replace the power suply with one that had a switch? The only other one i have that has a switch just happens to be dead aswell.

I just had a problem like this a few days ago... It seems my computer went through some sort of power surge and the motherboard was fried. I got a new PSU and got my motherboard replaced, and everything went well again.

Yep. Sounds like the motherboard died. It also COULD be the power supply- is it an ATX supply?

NO!!!!

It can;t be the motherboard! It's pentium 3 and I can't afford a new motherboard!!!! Wwwhhhhaaaaaaaa.......

But I will try the power suply first...

LPF, I dont have a clue. I will see if it says anywhere...

You can see if it's an ATX supply by looking at the motheboard power connector. If there are two long skinny connectors next to each-other, it's an old AT supply. If it's one big connector, it's ATX. If it is ATX, make sure the connector that goes from the power switch to the motherboard is properly connected.

It's pretty dated eh? So no warranty? It's pretty difficult to find new mobos out there now-a-days that support PIII, since they're all but extinct from the market. Also, if you do decide to buy a PIII mobo, chances are you're gonna have to do a reformat of your HDD... which is always fun :confused:

I will be going to a computer swap meet soon so they would probably have a second hand p3 mooboo. Ahem mobo.

I could also try eBay...
